John's Keedva BBQ Sauce

April 18, 2002:

The BBQ's Blog goes interactive. God help us all! :)

April 18, 2002:

Which reminds me. A tiny bit of fiddling and Ally is just about ready to convert Farscape Ally to full weblog capability, including comments. Yes. I know. It's horribly addictive. And standing right over there in the corner... is the person responsible.

After numerous instances of vociferous... pestering... the Arctic Flower has convinced the BBQ to do this. Simply for this reason: So she can insert snarky comments into snarky comments made by the webstress in the currently horribly underefficient, Farscape Ally. LOL.

Also, commenting will enable readers to provide feedback on story links provided. Hm. This could get interesting.

Ally's Reading List needed it's own frelling page! Hope it works. It's late and we are tired. Gonna take a quick look over at Redbeards and Leviathan then hit the hay.

Something new up over there at Orchid's (speak of the, ahem... nevermind) *g*

New at Orchid's: ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? - by orchidcactus

April 16, 2002:

How much do we love Notetab? Bunches! Too bad no spell check. We don't 'love' workin' without a net. Ah well. We need something new called "Typo-Check" anyway. Gotta thank M for proofing IYYY tranny again, Thanks!

Special request to add a pic of the 'JohnsKeedva BBQ Sauce' jar -- to scale; complete. Sorta. Best I could do for now, tiny cut out of pic sent in care package. Gives kind of an idea, but we really want to do a 'feature presentation' of the jar. Just didn't think of it while we were doin' care package pic. For a look, just click, or scroll down a bit, it's in the purple side-bar.

OMG! Care packages AWAY!! Finally. Well. What to do. What to do... *bamfg*

Okay, all right! Finished scoring Round 4 of Chainmale Trivia! Winner announced allll over the place! Check out the CMT Main Page, the Game Index Page, or the FINAL STANDINGS post on the scifi.com bulletin board. Congrats again to the winners!

Okay then. Well. Guess I gotta.... what? Work on the LttS tranny?

Any fic out there?

April 15, 2002:

Noticed yesterday, while finishing the tranny for IYYY, that Pilot must have a killer agent. Can't figure out any other reason why so many of his lines are in closeup in the Den. We absolutely refused to count those bits as scenes. Got too wierd. or... weird, whichever.

Word from The Whole Brain has it that 'Marshmallows 'n Jello', Part 2 is still comin'. We're pretty excited. First part was awesome.

How annoying is it that I can say I like a particular story, but don't say 'why'? Well, I think it'd be more annoying for me to say the same things, over and over. How many different ways are there to say, 'awesome'? Isn't it better to see from experience that whatever links pop up on the page, are to stories that vary from engaging reads to powerful, flawless storytelling. And to know, from that experience, that everything here is pretty damn good, and well worth the time for the read.

Maayan (well, hope you don't get tired of hearing that name, 'cause I sure don't tire of saying it) holds us rapt for an eternal moment with another blog vignette, installment, whatever; a second small bite, trailing out from the end of The Eleventh Hour, which, in itself, is a by-god-must-read. This one hurt so bad my teeth ached. But... you're torn, you know... if the pain is just dues... does it deserve our compassion... our tears? Eh. You decide, damn it.

All my 'to do' stuff is 'to done', well except for the CMT Trivia Master for Round 4. Still haven't scored Game 15. *sigh* So much to do. So little time.

April 14, 2002:

Massively enjoying the ,"Now THAT'S Farscape!" posts arising, again, on the boards. Get a giggle fit every single time it happens. And it happens over, and over again. Of course, we've noted that, how even in aired eps, immediately after we're shown something especially sweet, we get something especially sour. Do they like to play us or what? Everybody got that nice 'off-balance' buzz goin'? Good.

Those wondering why we don't indulge in ep analysis... hey, do you read the tranny's or not? Ally does all her pickin' in there. Just takes a bit... longer to get a tranny out. Especially when it's something as sour as IYYY.

Thanks to Angel for responding to our pleas. "Reaching Out" added to archives. Lovely romantic bit with that cruel twist that Ally loves.

New at Ally's Archive: Reaching Out - by Angel
Excerpt: "... She sat beside him putting a hand on his knee. "Don't apologise. Please, don't apologise. It should be me who is apol..." she was silenced with a finger to her lips. Their eyes locked. She could feel her heart pounding and wondered vaguely if he could feel it too. She hadn't been this close to him since, well since the other. He didn't try to kiss her, didn't try to move forward. Just sat, finger to lips, looking at her. ..."
Dedicated a few hours to finishing the tranny for I-Yensch, You-Yensch. Now we never have to watch it again. :-D

April 13, 2002:

Whilst fiddling with formatting for TWB's script, seeking 'new & improved' version... nothing worked. Fiddled, refiddled. Kept looking worse and worse. We were about to commit htmlkazi. Trash the whole thing and start over. Stumbled on a simpler coding version, and looked pretty frellin' good as well. Whew.

There apparently is such a thing as too much reading and/or too much writing. We believe we have become abnormally sensitized to such piddly things as grammar. The tiniest crap just POPS out at us. Yes, ladies and gents, it is as we feared... the BBQ has effectively become ( cue drum roll, please) 'The Grammar Police!' -- get the... get the wimmin' and chillin' off the streets!

New at Ally's Archive: NECESSARY EVIL - by sunshiner
Author's Summary: The agricultural planet of Kinfea Prime is an ideal place for a grocery run. But when one of Moya’s crew gets in over her head, the others agree to a little dirty work. The job seems simple enough, but nothing is ever easy in the Uncharted Territories. And the right decisions aren’t always the best ones.
Excerpt: "... This time, if everything turned to dren, it would solely be John’s fault. D’Argo and Chiana had both wanted to take Jool from the planet by force. From everything they had seen of Kinfea Prime, only the police carried real weapons. Just about everyone else was a farmer. Even the guns Cabmauri’s men carried were paltry when compared to John’s pulse pistol and D’Argo’s Qualta blade. They would have been able to cut a swath through the resistance and gotten away before the blood had time to dry. It wouldn’t have been the first time. It wasn’t even that long ago they had done something similar on LoMo. ..."
Gotta run. Saturday. Time for some Fun!

erk, forgot a thang. FINALLY going to mail off care packages. Hey, it's only been... what... four, five... six months? We need one final thing however, and then they are OUT of here! Really. Honest. Would I procrastinate?

Later...

Arg! We're NEVER gettin' outta here! hehe

Sunshiner forwards an afterword for Necessary Evil. No wonder I love these as much as the stories! And Angel gives us the go ahead to archive a shippy little post IYYY number, History.
New at Ally's Archive: Author's Afterword: Necessary Evil - by sunshiner

New at Ally's Archive: HISTORY - by Angel
Ally's Note: Shipper paradise. Calling this one unabashed romance and the author admits to a bit of wishful thinking. Entire vignette set on the... 'Terrace'.
Author's Summary: Just a little in between ep from IYYY - How I would like to see things happen before they go to battle.
Excerpt: "... So here I find myself, standing on the terrace, looking out at the vast stars that he chose to name. I see myself - the bright star, the constant, the anchor. It makes me feel no better. Stars can disintegrate, like love, like hate, like vengeance. ..."

April 12, 2002:

Update at Orchid's again. Brilliant Flower. Got the drop box working again. Check it out.

Once again, Farscape Ally reflects our personal selections. Stuff we like and go to time after time. Like a, well, dog with a bone. :) No ads, no additional bs. Just the cream. IOHO of course.

Finished archiving The Whole Brain's latest episode script, "Marshmallows in Jello, Part 1: Rocket and a Hard One". Link is up on the Fan Fiction page.

So that's, what? Three down on the 'To Do' list. Yeah. Night all.

April 11, 2002:

::On occasion do nothing whatsoever::

Lovely chat with a lovely friend this evening. And managed to eliminate top two items from the 'to do' list.

Is now a good time to mention that we would really, really... really, like to taste the second chapter of Speedbump's newest epic, "DeEvolution"? "Taking It Home", took almost a year to come all the way home. Part 1 of DeEvolution was published at Redbeards on January 4, 2002 ( hm... somehow it seems longer ). But we do get a *teehee* everytime we read that postscript on Part 1. *snerk* Think Speedy will let us have the story after we've gotten our jollies this way?

We'd also love to read the rest of birthsister's, "Lifetime", sometime in this one... but we're willin' to wait for the babe on that one. :) Yes, Ally admits, some things are more important than Farscape Fan Fiction! *gasp*

I crack me up. And, hey, that's the important thing. ;)

Challenge Response VISIT - aeryncrichton ( pd 04/09/02 )
Clip:
Visit
Despite the baby seated in her lap, Aeryn piloted the transport pod to a precision landing on the street in the Houston neighborhood. She turned and smiled at John. “You’re up,” she said.

John leaned in and kissed her. “Thanks, Babe.”

“No problem,” she grinned. “Now go on! Surprise him!”

“I think you already did that,” John smiled, but he took the baby from her and headed partway down the stairs, breathing in the air of Earth.

“Hey, Dad,” he said to the stunned man at the foot of the driveway. “Wanna go for a ride?
Oops... hm. Well, that's the whole story, it bein' a ficletini and all. Response to the 'Last Scene Standing' Challenge. We have decided that it takes as many words to post a ficletini as it does to post the link to the ficletini. So. There ya go. More news on fic in progress from ac along with lovely responses at the original story post. Check it out.

More on IYYY. Absolutely priceless when a viewer cares enough to send the very best.
FaDoP Review - 'I-Yensch, You-Yensch' - Tanika ( pd 04/10/02 )
Orchid's... Place, relocated. Growing pains. I understood cacti didn't grow that fast. Check out the new look, and the incredible fanfic by the author.

April 10, 2002:

Strangely, had an urge for some Otis Redding vocals yesterday. Okay, things we're moving from the 'To Do' list to the 'Get It Done, Already!' list:

  • Complete archive for KernilCrash's, Voices of Reason.
  • Complete archive for thewholebrain's latest script, 'Marshmallows 'n Jello'.
  • Finish finishing touches on IYYY tranny 'before' ITLD:LTTS airs on Friday.
  • oops, finish scoring Round 4 of CMT. Wondering if I can't just call the two highest point getters the champs, give 'em a fluffy doll and call it a game. :) Anyone wanna score Game 15 for the BBQ?
And then of course, there's the stuff I do 'for a living'. Ah well. Let's see if there's somethin' out there for the readin'.

Big update at Redbeards. OneEye's 'Perish Twice' is being well received. Yeah. And, uh, forgot to mention this one, although I enjoyed it so much I've read it probably three times by now, little thing called, 'Reaching Out' by Angel. Find it at Redbeards, or click the link below.
At Redbeards: REACHING OUT - Angel ( pd 2/22/02 )

Continuing: PEACE & QUIET, Part 2 - SETI_Fan ( pd 4/9/02 )
Clip: "The others bustled out to watch the brawl. I caught the dogs to keep them out of harm's way and called, "Stay in the shade! It's cooler. No, Braca, that's orange juice concentrate. Ice packs are blue. Aliens stay near the house!" The last thing I needed was for my neighbors to start poking around. Maybe I would convince them that Chyna and Mankind liked to wrestle in my yard. It was as good as anything else...."
Okay, little motivation and...
Returning to Ally's: VOICES OF REASON, by KernilCrash

April 9, 2002:

Very tired, even... weary. Sometimes I just get weary. LOL. Hey, I'm busy here. Puttin' some touches on IYYY. Still a couple more days before I'll be happy enough to put it up. Is anyone writing fic? Are we all too happy? ;) Monday's... who needs 'em?

Quick look at Dominion, and I just GOTTA add this for future reference

Yensch... according to my grandmother - leah99 ( pd 4/8/02 )

April 8, 2002:

Just made in back from the SF Con. Way cool. Convention going is an experience unto itself. You just gotta. Popped in, schmoozed with Virginia Hey and Kent McCord a bit, got autographed pics, took a few of my own. Rockin' good time. SF was nice too.

Thanks to Tracy for providing the address for Ultimate.

Scifi bboard is scrolling like mad. Just like the good old days. Lovely to see familiar faces chiming in on the new episodes. More stuff on 'I-Yench, You-Yench'...

Season 3 In 3 Minutes - PKAmmoTroop ( pd 4/6/02 )
Clip: "See if you can guess why this season is called THE SEASON OF DEATH (Orchestra crash!)..."

Season 3: The "set-up" episodes - BigNoseBob ( pd 4/6/02 )
Clip: "S1 was light, adventureous, and the show hadn't yet established huge story arcs. S2 was wild, experimental, and had one huge innovative story arc running through it. S3, therefore, has been quite a busy season..."

NEWS FROM SACC: 'I-Yensch, You-Yensch' - OboeCrazy ( pd 4/6/02 )
Clip: "Perhaps they should have called this episode ‘The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend”. Only Farscape could routinely turn bad guys into allies..."
No time to really comb through the Ultimate bboard for Farscape nugget's 'o wisdomtm. Like to share a few, if you'd like to send URL's, I'll be happy to post along with senders handle.

Typical slowdown on fic during non-drought periods. Now if I can just stop messing around on the weekends at conventions, I can focus on archiving the stuff that's waiting, and even work a bit on transcripts. The danger of mildly oblique to blatant spoilers for remainder of S3 remains an issue.

April 6, 2002:

We got a 'lovely' reminder by email from a friend in Australia. Reminder centered on how much everyone who is Farscape Deprived loves the episode transcripts. Episode 3:18, 'I-Yensch, You-Yensch' has aired in the US, and we'll be doin' up the tranny for the Transcripts page, we're not in a huge hurry 'cause Jules has already done trannys for the UK broadcast version of the final four for Season 3. They're up over at XenaJules2's place. I've added links to all known transcripts sites over there <--]] in the 'purple zone', including direct links to the tranny's for ep 3:19, 20, 21 and 22, at XJ2's. Haven't asked, but I'm positive she'll be workin' on getting up a 'US' version pretty soon. For those who remain unspoiled, 'please don't click on ep tranny's you haven't seen yet'. For those who don't care, or with little hope of seein' an ep you wanna see any time soon. . . Transcripts are a pretty good way to slake Farscape Deprivation. Jules tranny style is very narrative, enjoyed reading IYYY. Thanks, J.

Maayan reposted her take on IYYY ('I-Yensch, You-Yensch'). And it's very likely there's intense mania going on all over the boards. Check out Ultimate and the scifi.com/farscape board for a taste. Oh, hey, added links to the boards and a spot for great 'reference' sites to the purple zone. Anybody know any more, please fling an email, or drop a note through the anonymous box over at orchid's for the BBQ. LOL. She won't mind-- really. ;)

ooo, bb highlights on IYYY, beyond the predicted, 'that sucked', or 'Matt Ford' ... well, does the same. Which, he does not! *huff* anyway...

Blue's thoughts on tonight's ep.
Clip: "...Well I'll say again that I started to hyperventilate just before 9pm, and did the itchy-pants dance until the first commercial break...I was a quivering bundle of crap by the end of the show..."

Capt. H. Reviews "I Yensch, You Yensch"
Clip: "The Captain gives "I Yensch, You Yensch" a Rating of: 3 Moyas..."

IYYY (Spoilers)
Clip: "Truly I think you have to remember that this is a transition episode. It's here for Exposition, set up.. etc. I don't think it was a great episode of Farscape, but I don't think it sucked either..."

I'm waiting and wondering if Rydra will repost thoughts on IYYY, or if we'll have to risk spoilers to mine for the original post.

OoooOOoooOOOooo... Asharah points to the new Cult Times Farscape Special now available over at visimag. Uh-oh. Well, that was probably a SPOILER on the cover! Yeah. Gotta get me some 'o that.

Well, I've used googled and searched and searched, but I cannot relocate that URL to the Ultimate bulletin board. Dang it. A little help?

That's all the time we got today, gotta run to SF, do SF stuff today, do the SF Con tomorrow. Pounce Kent and Ginny. Yeah! Sweet!!

April 5, 2002:

Farscape Friday. It's surreal... isn't it?

April 4, 2002:

Our 'evil streak' gets really large and sticky when we're tired. ;)

Finished reading part 1 of KodiakkeMaxx's, "In The Company of Ghosts". All I can say is, 'wow'. Never mind that it's excellent well written. This is a truely unique pov. Just a few days ago, we were quaking over the idea of 'rating' each and every aired ep. How about writing an epic fiction that encompasses key events of every single episode, but from a completely different point of view. Life skews on a different tangent, and events unfold in a different, yet eerily similar way. Awesome piece of work. We wanna know a couple of things. 1) How long has the story been in process? and 2) When can we expect Part 2? Oh, and, 3) Is the story complete and being bled out slowly to torture us, or is it still in progress?

Missed out on a marathon chat. Damn responsible crap. Kind friend sent us a copy of the 'Orchid & Inky Show', so we are enjoying vicariously. Hey, Vicarious is our middle name! However, we are sworn to mumatude on pain of sacrificing a few of our inches to those less fortunate. *g* Hey. That sounded 'mildly' insulting. Eh, what can I say. The caveat is 'right there' on the page! hm.

Wouldn't that be 'orchidcacti's... place'? *gigglesnort*

The following is considered 'unclassified' by the BBQ:

  • Typo's are much funnier when you're only reading them, and not committing them.
  • Watching the discovery of 'brand new technologies'! Hysterical.
  • * the BBQ waves back
  • The BBQ isn't the only one who lives to crack 'herself' up! LOL
imloco2 answers a burning question from an Aeryn Years reader over on the feedback blog.

April 3, 2002:

Didn't get a chance to mention how I dislike April Fools Day. It's just irritating having to spend an entire day on guard against the sort of 'humor' the day engenders. Those 'enjoying' the ruckus on the scifi board on April 1st, can probably empathize with this.

Lessee... fic, fic, fic, where art thou? Oh, man. I ADORE Leviathan!

New at Leviathan: THE STARS ARE OURS by various authors ( pd 4/1/02 )

New at Leviathan: DUALITY by Roseveare ( pd 3/20/02 ) ( Spoilers to 3:22 )
oops, realized we didn't upload the new feedback page for the Aeryn Years series. Proof positive that we're workin' waaaaay too hard! LOL. Oh, more new feedback today. Thanks, Rel.

April 2, 2002:

First, thanks to D for providing some fine tuning details for the finishing touches on the site revamp. Wonkiness aside, it all seems to look okay, and work right.

Okay, feedback on Aeryn Years from a reader who asks a question the BBQ was too gutless to ask. hehe. Thanks, Penni. More words from imloco via email. Looks like there may be an addition to the Aeryn Years series soon.

Oy, hope I have time to read Ghosts today, word from orchid has it as a pretty good read. The Arctic Flower agrees with cofax, says the story is 'Good, epic good.'. It's a two-fer and the author's got a winner!

Testing links and stuff, making sure everything works for me; orchid and Maayan try to suck me in, but I'm busy damn it!

Ah! Link to Redbeards works, and better, Redbeards is accessable again. Hm. Tempted to download a few more for a rainy day, but, well, see above.

Arg. Don't'cha hate it when you find a teensy tiny little error and you've managed to translate the bugger to five separate pages and then you have to fix the thing and upload all five pages and rename all five pages before you can go to bed and it's already 2 hours past your bedtime? I KNOW someone can relate to this. ARG.

More fic we don't have time to read. Exactly the reason we started this page, and my has it grown in a years time.

Necessary Evil by Sunshiner added to Ally's Reading List

April 1b, 2002:

All right, lovely recc from cofax. Haven't read yet, but as I've said before, 'best reccs come from best authors'. Here's what cofax had to say:

Despite the date, I have a totally serious fic recommendation for you: In the Company of Ghosts, Part 1: The Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies, by KodiakkeMax. Posted to Leviathan yesterday.

I should preface by saying that yes, I beta'd this. But it needed very very little help. Max is one of the natural talents. This is an epic story full of twists and turns and pain and human connection, with a John you'll recognize and an Aeryn you almost wish you'd see on the screen.

I really can't recommend this story highly enough: it's as good, in its own way, as "No Dominion" or "Weight of the World."

What's been posted is Part 1, and there are two more parts of equal length being edited.

Part 1 contains spoilers through 322, so consider yourself warned.

best-
cofax

High praise indeed. I can feel the author blushin' from here. Thanks for the recc, cofax. I'll be certain to lay an eyeball on it. Maybe I won't need to grow a few more for the purpose. ;) Still in need of some time. We'll take used.

New at Leviathan: IN THE COMPANY OF GHOSTS, PART 1: The Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies - by KodiakkeMax ( pd 3/31/02 )
Oh boy, bunch of new stuff at Leviathan.

And thanks to CJ, Kerry and moni for the kind words on the redesign. Links in a more eye agreeable color, I hope. Dinner was fab, movie, well, do we have 'time' to go into how great Russell Crowe is? Just one thing; Ben would'a been a great John Nash!

April 1a, 2002:

Here it is. "Fluffed and Folded Ally's". Enjoy. Hope you don't get lost. We're goin' out now to see a couple of movies, have dinner.... Let us know how you like it.

April 1, 2002:

If you see anything funky, it's probably the result of the BBQ revamping the site. Pay no attention to the BBQ behind the curtain.

Okay, we may have been just a bit knackered, but this struck us as awfully funny, thought I'd share, excerpted from an email from orchid

"... All-righty, then. I'm sitting here, looking at several different emails, that have been passed back and forth so frequently that they no longer even vaguely resemble the emails they started as. (say that ten times fast *snerk*) Oh, the humanity!

Try the veal..."
The BBQ tittered over than one for a little less than half-an-hour! And, ah, we are forced to add that it is patently obviously that insanity CAN be emailed! LOL

Robyn Bender, still hard a work on something special, sends us a check for our movie/music memory.
"... If you don't know it already, you should sample Little Feat's "Waiting for Columbus" for a FINE variation on "your mind makes an order that your body can't fill." That whole CD makes one very excellent soundtrack for NC-17 type activities, at least around our house. And it's one I can TOTALLY picture Crichton owning back home... Aunt Robyn says, check it out..."
The link is ours, Auntie Robyn is not a pimp for Amazon. We think she gives us 'way' too much credit, but we loved the reference and popped over to amazon to snag us one. Those who like in person shopping, release is due (on the CD) April 2, 2002. Also snagged orchid's recc; Over Tumbled Graves, by Jess Walter, and an extra copy of The Bridge, by Iain Banks. Can't think of enough people to give this one to. *g*

Almost done with the reformatting. Ally will be happy. Oh, I just realized, with the fiction going on a separate page, we may be tantalized into archiving NC-17 fiction. I mean, our own child is now almost 21, creating smut of his own, our friends know we are a smut reader, and we'll make something so that if anyone under 17 clicks on an NC-17 link story it'll send an email to their mum. Yeah. We can do it. *the bbq cackles in anticipation*

March 31, 2002:

Destiny, kismet, fate. All that. No time today, should be doing 'other stuff', can't get into Farscape BB. Cool. No fic for the BBQ.

Oy, fanfic.net won't open for us either.

A visit to Divine Collective pays off. Maayan has a new post LGM3 vignette up for our enjoyment.

Happy Holiday!

March 30, 2002:

Crusing around, Redbeards is still down :-( and now we're getting an Internal Server Error message. Definitely not good, kids. email got kicked back. Also not good. Ally only thanks goodness that she's a compulsive downloader with plenty of private copies to keep her happy. What, me sweat?

Propelled over to Divine Collective, where we come dangerously near to snorting pop out our nose (to snurch a phrase, thanks orchid). It's our goal to have Maayan snort pop out her nose. Anyone know if this is possible? To postulate a rationale for such gems as "Kirk Syndrome" and "Shark Jumping" (which sounds more than a little twisted to us), is to spectulate on a society addicted to forming cliches so an idea may be conveyed with a word or two. In this way, complex ideologies, psychologies, methodologies :-D and, well, english, need not be mastered, nor touched on, to convey what it is we're really feeling. Soon we'll be back to grunting and scratching. Whoo hoo! Okay. Gotta admit. Tried, still pretty damn snarky.

*huff* If nothing else, some of these blogs are going to 'make' us get a bigger monitor.

A three day weekend looks us in the face and we really want to go mess about, especially since the family thing fell through. Family conflicts. Gotta love 'em. Why do we waste our time this way? Why must we always be 'right'? Why does the media always misquote us? Why wasn't I born a better negotiator? Why, why, why?! :-D So, what to do, what to do. We gotta get steamin' on the new home for the Fan Fiction, obsess over April 5th, work on archiving The Whole Brain's new script (formatting worked like a dream in tests), obsess over April 5th, upload Crash's v.3 on Heart of the Matter, obsess over April 5th, upload new digital imaging software (bitchin'), obsess over April 5th, uh. Oh, gotta prep the planter or all the baby herbs are gonna die, die, die! And, oh! Obsess over April 5th! So you see, we've got ah-lot to do. Anyone for a movie? :D

We're caught up on fanfic reading, and no one is putting anything new or fabulously readworthy up. Enjoying sunshiner's Necessary Evil, fun read, good formula, plently of twists and turns. Wasting time reading Robert Asprin's, Phules Paradise. Read for laughs only. Hey, better than Ship of Ghosts. The hymnal quality of the songs on the Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou CD keeps running through my head. I notice it when I hear myself humming in the bathroom. I guess that's what happens when you have it set to wake you in the morning.

Spending too much time watching the news.

Do we look nuts enough to risk getting this obsessed in another fandom? Well, we certain hope not.

Ah HA! Brave in the face of the mad scroll the return of 'scape always provides. Thanks sunshiner! This one has a nailbiter cliffhanger at the end of each and every part! arg!

Last of Chainmale Trivia, from the BBQ anyway. Brain is about fried with the trivia. We acknowledge we know far too much about 'scape. Probably play to brush up before the con. Never in May. Too many repeats and sweets in May to need CMT.

Fractures got us godawful hyped. Couldn't sleep at all last night. That's a song. Geez. Later

March 29, 2002:

Today is ALMOST the day. This time next week. Oh, mama!

Oh, cool! Last night, couldn't load Redbeards. This usually means; A) Updates are soon to come, and there could be a new installment of Speedbumps latest (please, please, please!) or B) It bit the big one again. Ouch that statement must come accompanied by much feverish knocking of wood. There's a lot to be said for cgi (common gateway interface). Lessee... well. Can't think of anything right off the bat. Gimme a minute here.

Well, kidding aside (really, the BBQ is ALWAYS kidding), if you read that, you really do need to give Jeff a hand and a big ol thank you! And maybe a first born or two, depending on your level of addiction to Fan Fiction.

Crash comes through with the correct movie, C.O. to Maverick in Top Gun, "Son, you're writing checks your body can't cash." Well at least we had the night imagining it was Jack Nicholson, and that Ben would be a great Jack. Nice dreams last night.

Farscape Friday is back. The world returns to normal. So does Ally, the BBQ and that other one.

Final Game of Chainmail Trivia goes up tonight...ah, around 7PM PST, probably with the worlds lamest Farscape Trivia Question and without the QITW from Game 15. Haven't tallied that one yet, but if you got an answer to percieved windyness... fling it. The BBQ will get to the tally soon. Game will close on Sunday per usual, and Round Winner(s) will be announced prior to Undressed on April 5th. After that? Anyone interested in a slightly battered concept in Trivia?

Hey. It happened. We got here. Go figure.

March 28, 2002:

"Big Trouble" is our film of choice for the weekend, well-next weekend anyway. Read the book, by Dave Barry. Fully expect huge laughs!

Ocassionally, the BBQ is shaken from the belief that 'everyone' gets us. Here's a clue we dropped to a query. Thought we'd share it. We hardly ever do.

Pop in a copy of Home on the Remains, fast forward all the way to the tag if you like. Watch closely as D'Argo enters the Center Chamber. Over there in the corner... watch that action. Actually, the action that put the final straw in the handle was that 'pop' to the britches. Ahhhhh! After watching that, several dozen times, tell 'me' you woundn't wanna be some of John's Keedva Barbecue Sauce!
Oh my god! We've been subverted by the Artic Flower! Well, we don't need encouragement to watch more Farscape, and Samoas are our cookies, but we are experiencing a longing to buy a cactus for our house while simultaneously contemplating a trip to a cold place in June! Is there a cure for this!?!?!

We've worked ourself to a tiny nub today. Writin' checks my body can't cash. Is that the quote? And what the frell movie is it from? I'm hearing Jack Nicholson. mm... Nice thought to hit the hay on. Jack Nicholson. There's a role for Ben. Night all.

March 27, 2002:

Getting so demented. We now find ourselves copying blogs to .txt file so we can read them at our leisure. Somebody SAVE us!

Finally made time to get back to Maayan's blog. I knew she'd blow my mind cause I'd been away for a few. But, this! We're in trouble now.

M's quote has me hearing Claudie's (or is it inky's) voice in me head. LOL We fully sympathize. And oh the post The Eleventh Hour snippet... hm. We're just gonna print this one and tuck it under our pillow for a while. Thanks, Maayan. Have we said that the thing we like most about Maayan's writing is the visceral quality? We just feel it... so deep. yum!

Orchid and Maayan may be on the same frequency, and wouldn't that more than we deserve. Savory vignettes on both recent blog entries. eerie. But, sadly, I now can type those URL's by memory. Hm. And for the first time we wonder, is "bitch envy" a sort of 'statement' regarding Aeryn or just a personal reference? The BBQ needs a bit of enlightening.

Okay, reading on we start the familiar gnashing of teeth, when...oh, oh, the blog inspires us! We have a forum here! Whoa. Okay. *clears throat*

Frankly, we enjoy people who have a healthy ego. Saves us the trouble of justifying, usually to them, why it is we enjoy their company, or why we enjoy what they have to say. Therefore we are also thankful that DK @ Co. have healthy egos. We expect it is that healthy ego, supporting a drive to achieve shared goals, which eventually brought us Farscape. If we had anything to gripe about, surely it would be, "What took so long?"

So we're not interpreting what DK had to say, not gonna put a personal spin on another's words. We're just gonna take it at face value and say, "Thanks, DK." like we always do. We're glad he's happy with our thanks, although we'd happily give over some actual bucks to see Farscape. I'm sure we're not alone.

That we enjoy a particular show, enough to rabidly support it is indeed a large part of the shows success but - and boy is it a big one -, that we enjoy it enough to rabidly support it is a result of the inescapable fact that it is. (boy did we hate doing that, but we couldn't resist) If the show didn't exist, weren't good, didn't resonate with the people watching, there would be no fan base.

Is it fear or ego, or a healthy dash of both that causes the pointing fingers, the surly mutters, the shouts of outrage.

Ego works for me. Fear sucks.
Normally the BBQ does not suffer from impulse control problems, which is why we usually just gnash teeth at the produce of those who must. But we're pretty sure that qualified as a rant. Unfortunately, rational Ally wanted to chime in here as well. *sigh*

We love Farscape. We love everyone responsible for bringing us the show. We trust (to borrow a phrase) those folks to do with the show what inspires them to do, and we trust (sorry, again) that those decisions continue to bring us the most extraordinary show it has ever been our pleasure to see.

We understand the desire to discuss the thing endlessless. *BBQ thwaps Ally's forehead for that statement* Heck WE OURSELVES indulge in the passion DAILY. We do wish that the continuing urge to heckle, criticize, and doubt could be passed on. We understand why DK would be moved to speak his frustration aloud. There. We feel better. And if anyone is tempted to send a, "but, but, Ally!" email... we feel your pain. We can only advise, trust me. <G>
Off the box for more blog. Maayan and I would bore each other to death. She'd talk, and I'd just ... nod. Well, for a bit of variety, we'd throw in some vigorous nodding.

Okay, and reading even further down I got a healthy giggle. "Got out of hand" hm? *gigglesnort* Well, sure. That'd be one way to put it, in a nice, "I'm really a healthy person who gets plenty of sleep." kind of way. Lesse... oh no, a list! Someone gave homework while I was absent? We are SO not doing that again, the top 10 was hard enough. OY! What healthy obsession, that leads us to rank and file and categorize.

Top episode is ours as well, how many people pick that ep as #1? Almost as many who have it at #66, I'd wager! LOL, but the one with the nuns/nurses and lions (which continues to struggle for precedence with us) is lingering at #27, below exceedingly worthy eps, however, we'd still be able to crank her up a notch or two, pretty easy.

And oh man, that rant in the choice for #11 & 12. Proves we can't even read about it without being utterly moved.

GEM would be on my top 25 if only for that "it's always about what you want!" rant. Oh, and the space suit, and the eyes. The eyes are what always get me. We see CDM and heard orchids voice, "Pilot, where are you?" LOL. Spoilers on the list. Those tantalizing black spaces to protect the unspoiled.

Oh god, this is gonna be long. Note to self: Never do the blog when you have plenty of time. Ally's gonna kill us is we don't get workin' on the home for the Farscape Fiction.

Uh, oh, starting to look like they'll be a #66, I'm betting.... PIYW, or... nope. oops, and PIYW pops up before #66. Hm. What could it be... duh, DALD aka ReUnion. Aw, #59 was a disappointment. I love that one. Well, I love it - in parts. This is probably the only ep that gets the ffwd treatment through the ENTIRE B plot. And at the bottom of the list; Vitas Mortis beats out Home on the Remains!?!?!?!?! What twisted universe allows THIS to happen! hehe - no - seriously! And, no mention AT ALL of the snappin' o' the britches? Surely that is enough to bump HOTR above VM! ( the bbq lobbies intensely ). And that'd be "Keedva". *huff* Uhoh, DALD popped up before the end of the list. Now we're scared. Aw. Okay. Now we are tempted. But we cannot IMAGINE how long it takes to rank SIXTY-FRELLING-SIX EPISODES!

Ouch, we go away, come back to confirm the URL, and Maayan has updated the main pics at her site. Gorgeous stuff. Sad. Must be the flu talkin'. But, we want that. yum!

Somewhere in here WILL be a fic recc by someone!

Odd thing we noticed after watching DVD 11. During this hellacious 7 month drought, we've only watched a tiny about of episodes. Last drought we watched... constantly-- in the true sense of the word. Wonder what's up with that. We are just as obsessed as before... hm.

Time. It must be time!

Okay, we have seen the new TV Guide. We are stoked! Yeah! Bring it on!

AH! Thank goodness for Atana_Mirtai!

A couple of nice bits of new feedback on the Aeryn Years series. Check the Reader's Feedback Blog for the latest.

We 'almost' got to finish thewholebrain's latest Farscape Script, "Marshmellows 'n Jello". Plus we finally had time to read the first two parts of sunshiner's 'Necessary Evil', we were so excited we mauled it pretty seriously and have a really long pointless email to send the author (hm... where's that disc).

Lesse... what's new today? Hm. You GOTTA love the way that Scifi BB window just POPS open on demand. *sigh*

Oh, oh, oh! On a 'non-fic' note. Got an email from Julie at Creation Entertainment. Well, a form email really. She wants to indulge in a bit of reciprocity with the whole link exchange thing. Nice banner link. I love Creation. They rock. Unfortunately Ally doesn't have a links page. Who else got this form email thing today? Ally doesn't like being this high profile-- that creation is sending us emails for advertisement sharing. Makes us want to go to ground. Ally and the BBQ are part rabbit. Tell us we're NOT that high profile. *whimper*

Valleyforge recommends a fic, sequel to From The Ashes (which the BBQ enjoyed). Things a spoiler fic, so please protect unspoiled eyes! Valleyforge notes that 'the other guy' is in it too. hehe Can't wait to read.

Yipe! Evil ICE, EEEEEEEEEEVIL! Do not like ice. Well, ice in a glass, cool. Ice on the road. Not good. Orchid's brush with lack of airbag deployment may put off long deployed sleep. Gotta giggle though. Good thing sunglasses can't be sent via email. The Arctic Flower would be digging herself out from under a mound.

It's late. We're tired. Gotta run. Night all.

March 25, 2002:

We’ve typin’ our fingers to the bone, getting various bits of pure prose ready to grace the pages of Farscape Ally. In case no one but us as noticed, the thing is going completely off the rails. Watch out for some updates that will have us moaning… where’d the fanfic archive go? Ally decided the Fanfic needed more respect, and the blog was too busy showboating, so the fanfic would have to get it’s own page. And just who gets to do the work? Hmmmmmm?

Some new stuff. The Left Brain ‘finally’ chimes in with an afterword on “East Of Hezmana” - makes the BBQ wish we drank coffee.

New: Author’s Afterword: East of Hezmana, by The Left Brain
Two afterwords for Crash’s stories in the Aeryn Years series are up for your enjoyment. Dunno about you folks, but Ally would attempt to read Crash’s doodles if she had the opportunity. Check ‘em out.

New: Author’s Afterword: Woggles and Warm Welcome (Aeryn Years), by KernilCrash

oooOOooo, this looks highly tasty...
New: NECESSARY EVIL - Part 1 of 2, Part 2 of 2, by sunshiner ( pd 3/25/02 )
Summary: The agricultural planet of Kinfea Prime is an ideal place for a grocery run. But when one of Moya’s crew gets in over her head, the others agree to a little dirty work. The job seems simple enough, but nothing is ever easy in the Uncharted Territories. And the right decisions aren’t always the best ones.
Getting some very nice responses from readers, yeah, can't wait to read it, and Ally is actively coveting the story for Farscape Ally.

Good news! Thanks to a very nice email, whatever was hosing with the bbq's connection tucked it's tail and ran for the hills! Thanks, littorina!

Now… a bit, well, a lot, about feedback…

…sometimes Ally doesn’t give it, and we know that sometimes everyone doesn't give it. We understand how hard it is to come up with something useful/interesting/not dumb to say, outside of “oooooo! Loved it!”

…sometimes the impediment is strategic difficulty. This is especially so in the case of the Aeryn Years… ( insert Anth’s movie trailer voice) until now (cue music please).

In the interest of fostering the great author's who gave us their wonderful words in this series, Ally introduces a whole new concept in feedback. Feed the Authors: Aeryn Years, has just gone up on the Scifi Bulletin Board. Ally, the BBQ and the rest of us, not to mention all the author’s of the Aeryn Year’s short stories invite (invite? heck, we beg, plead, inveigle) any and all readers of the series to check in there. Leave some thoughts on the series as a whole, on a particular story, or on each story as you read it (we especially like that one; we’re feedback pigs at Ally’s). Your feedback will then be ‘archived’ in Feed The Authors on the Aeryn Year’s main page.

In addition, if you wish to provide anonymous feedback, we at Farscape Ally invite you to email JohnsKeedvaBBQ@thevortex.com, and indicate that you’d like your feedback to be completely anonymous and it will be archived as such with the ‘handle’ replaced by ‘anonymous reader’ and the date. This option provides you, the shy type, to provide feedback (including a more constructive rather than effusive viewpoint). Ally reserves the right to ‘decline’ posting an article of feedback, but you will not be edited if archived! Needless to say, which is why we’re sayin’ it, your email will not be used for specious purpose or for making paper dolls.

Ally’s excited!

March 24, 2002:

We're a bit more than annoyed to find that we just can't get to the scifi bboard. We don't get an error message, we don't lock up, we. just. never. get. there. Heck, can't even get to scifi.com! I can go anywhere else I usually go, and someplaces I don't usually go, just can't get to the scifi.com server, and we're a bit worried about how long this phenomenon will last. Anyone else have a similar problem? We have 'no clue' what could be causing it.

Through extreme measures we absconded with another pc and got on slicker 'n snot, snurched a couple of fic url's and did a bit of pandering, we even got a chance to look at the BBQ's birthday post. Thanks to KaraS for posting the card (how'd she know cake and ice cream were our favorites?), and thanks for the birthday wishes from BensLoyalBabe, unohoo, DearHarvey, DenAstrogeek, orchidcactus, Xenajules2, BayouCat, Mreen, moonbebe, Teruterubozul, Suzzy, can, Scaper1984, Revolos55, tazy, aeryncrichton, imloco2, valleyforge, JA_Shipper, Nighthawk82, Shipscat, Latescaper, grammykins, brahmsviolin, pitdog, horsefan, Greenie, CrystalBlue84, and inkling! The BBQ nearly had a coronary, and not halfway through the posts, didn't get the trivia question (the bbq plays dumb).

For our birthday we had many pressies, the best of which was the promise of shovin' Ben into a tiny box and shippin'm over from Australia. Thanks, hun! And more than a few songs. Here's a birthday song that will work for all of us...

*Rotate blue crystal, trim yellow disk, extinguish orange light...
open all presents, pig out on chocolate cake, raise a glass...
savor, revel, enjoy... be happy, be healthy...
indulge in all things Farscape...
maximum thrust...*

Thanks!

And now... to business. While in stealth mode on the bro-in-law's pc, we picked out a couple of nice fics- thewholebrain checks in with a new script! Just for moi! (the bbq is deluded! hehe), BetanSurvey hurls Part 14 of Golden Apples, and Crash fiddles with perfection.

March 22, 2002:

Well, it's our birthday once again. Yay! Many thanks and much affection to those taking the time to send their best wishes - in their own 'unique' way. :)

The BBQ is starting to count our years in Farscape obsession 'types'.

In '99 and '00, it was the 'Season of Trivia'. '01 and '02 we've christened the 'Season of Fan Fiction', and there have been some great words out there for us to savor.

Therefore, we determined to take the day to thank the amazing author's who have made our year in Farscape Fan Fic ... Speedbump, huzzlewhat, Analise, orchidcactus, birthsister, Maayan, KernilCrash, Shaye, BetanSurvey, imloco2, wiscaper, MALar, RobynBender, newscaper, Anne, FarDareisMai, Shipscat, Praps...

Thanks also to those great 'new' authors who discovered and cultivated a facination and love for Farscape ... pene, makiko, cofax ...

Our deep thanks and gratitude go to all those fantastic bb artists who helped keep us sane during the drought with entertaining reads and various forms of insanity ... aeryncrichton, Atana_Mirtai, UCSBDad, OneEye_the_DRD, PKAmmoTroop, ScapeArtist, snipergrl78, LMTCotU, KimberlyBlue ... and so many more, too numerous to name, or remember -- given the whole cheesecloth thing.

Special thanks to Leathergirl, who most deserves the "Best At Helping Us Obsess Over FanFiction" Award. Thanks, LG.

We just know we missed someone, therefore; to every writer who has set pen to paper and sent their thoughts out into the world... you have our deepest affection and respect.

Writers WROCK!!

March 21c, 2002:

Think we've finally solved the idiotic b@mm email virus thing thanks to those fine folks at f-prot. Thing is pernicious... f-prot found the files, but couldn't delete it, heck "I" couldn't delete it. Had to run in safe mode just to delete the files. Up-side. Entire system is running super fast now. Wow. Only took... hm... about 45 days. Still, please hold to our warning above for a few more weeks til we are 100% certain - we've been sure about it before.

Some fic and that story the BBQ promised, courtesy of KernilCrash and inkling. First, the fic:

New at Farscape Ally: HEART OF THE MATTER, by KernilCrash
And now the story:

The weekend of March 8th, the BBQ, inky and orchid had a nice visit. As the BBQ's birthday fell a few days inside what is turning into a three month rotation for this pilgrimage between friends (possibly having something to do with magnetism - we're not certain), it must have seemed the perfect opportunity for a conspiracy.

Enjoying local fare and stimulating company at the Outback (hey, you gotta!), our waitress flitted by the table once more, dropping off additional 'condiments'. The BBQ - innocent sap - picks up the small yellow bottle, wondering what condiment she thought might go well with grilled tuna... hm, apparently it would be some mysterious red substance labeled: "John's Keedva BBQ Sauce" ... ... um ... .... We admit, smoke 'may' have dribbled from our ears as our brain went into overdrive.

We are told that the expression on our face was priceless. inky and orchid have to be the 'best' straight men in the world - not a single giggle escaped while the BBQ struggled with this phenomenon. The conspiracy got a huge payoff as a mad seconds long scramble ensued in a futile attempt to comprehend how/if/why/did/wha? Could the item in our hands possibly be an import from Australia?!!?!?! The BBQ is extremely gullible :)

We need only to have looked up and noted the expression of glee on inky's face to realize we'd been had - rather successfully had. Friends... gotta love 'em! Courtesy of inkling... here's the label affixed to the small jar that now sits in a place of honor, next to Action John!

Special

'Friends' - what are ya gonna do? Thanks, guys!

March 21, 2002:

Someone recently told us, "The best fic is always AU." Ally is forced to agree with this. To venture a justification for this opinion is to say that AU fic is not bound by 'what might happen next'. AU fic takes the tenants and established lore; takes the guts of Farscape and it's characters, and then takes flight. Bound only by the limits of the authors imagination. The author makes the story their own. There's a lot to be said for a story that doesn't limit itself to the immediate road ahead. Ally is an AU and Future Fic convert.

Where were we?

Recommendation from orchidcactus. The Arctic Flower enjoyed this one, and we are anxiously awaiting the time to read the dang thing! LOL

New: PERISH TWICE 1 of 6, 2 of 6, 3 of 6, 4 of 6 by OneEye_the_DRD ( pd 3/20/02 )
Ah! fanfic.net likes us again! Now, if only we had time to peruse the new stuff. So much fic, so little time.

March 20, 2002:

There are absolutely no new fic reccs in the blog today. Spent most of the day icing our knee and messing about with the Aeryn Years compilation series, which, incidentally, is shaping up nicely. Ally should have a release date for you sometime soon.

Thoughts on organizing our thoughts as spewed out all across Farscape Ally. FA is a bit different bent from your regular blog, indexing it would amount to running all the story links to one page and cutting out all the, to snurch a term, 'blathering'. Problem is, Ally doesn't really wanna do that. Let's face it, the continuous stream of story links are merely a means for us to compensate for a short term memory that moonlights as a cheesecloth. We add links to intriguing stories that we've had time to 'flip through' as it were, but haven't actually 'read'. A plethora of fingers to hold our place til time for reading arises.

Work that fits the criteria for Ally's 'reader seal of approval' either gets archived as "Mandatory Reading", or the links are added to Ally's Reading List. All this to ensure that we don't lose anything that we need to read again. Writing that demands to be read not once, but again and again and... well, you get the idea. Therefore, Ally's Reading List and Ally's Archive will always be there, buried under the blog on the ficpics page (with handy dandy shortcuts at the top of the page), and the rest gets tossed into the archive about once a month, indexed by date, remaining available to any dedicated hunter. An efficient, easy system. Ally likes easy. She already spends a indiscreet about of time pursuing a good read. Perhaps this proves we are merely obsessed rather than 'dedicated'. ;)

Today I'm reminded what a good read "Til Death", by Speedbump was. Excellent narrative, gorgeous dialogue - read it - not just for the story itself, but for the mechanics of writing, especially how the dialogue is laid out. Sublime stuff. An undeserved bonus; you get nice plotting, and well developed original characters with a detailed culture included, not many attempt that. Definitely a re-read worthy fic, just sitting there; all warm and happy at Redbeards, just waiting for you.

And finally, an email from a fellow reader convinced Ally that it was time to restate our mission statement at Ally's Fic Pics. The title of the page notwithstanding.

We appreciate the vast amount of Farscape fanfiction. New work is posted every day. We don't mention nearly all of it for a simple reason. Time.

Because of time we use Ally's Fic Pics to point to stories that we read and throughly enjoyed. Stories that hit on or near Ally's definition of good to great writing. We earmark these stories because we ourselves wish to find them again and again... and again. We have a memory which moonlights as a cheesecloth - thus we must do this, and we like to share our discoveries.

Ally is extremely finicky and time being what it is - limited - we stress those that we feel are absolute can't miss stories. The key word in that mission statement is 'we'. Perceptions vary widely - it's inescapable that Ally's perception will differ with another readers. If our tastes are similar to 40% of those other readers... we would be vastly surprised.

That being said; when a reader cares enough about a story to recommend it, we always put up the readers recommendation. Otherwise, if a particular story isn't mentioned, it could mean we didn't see it, or it didn't strike our fancy.

Ally's fancy is a very demanding critter. Technical difficulties with a story post aggravates our migrane. Rampant typos or grammatical errors make us close the link on what could be a pleasant enough read. Bland narration or stilted dialogue sets our teeth on edge, destroying the flow of the story; we can live with one or the other - not both. Off the mark characterization makes our upper lip curl, making us think more about our lip than the story. Heck, Ally is finiky to the point that if a story doesn't enchant her within the first paragraph the link is closed and the search continues. We allow it's possible we're missing a great story 'cause we either didn't see it, or we didn't march ahead. We are willing to risk this because of time.

Night all.

March 19, 2002:

Think we did the time warp again. Thought for certain we skipped a couple of days there, what with being all shagged out after a long squawk. Hm. Be that as it may (is that one word?), Ally is workin' hard on getting the Aeryn Years series ready for your enjoyment. Ladies and Gents, and the rest of ya, this is gonna be one interesting read. All kinds of different flavors. There will be an audible thump from all the jaws dropping when you lay eyes on the list of authors that have come together to bring us this series. Let's not forget to thank imloco2 for instigating the madness. Only a few more days to wait!

Yes, Ally is very hyped about the project. Lessee if there's something out there we can read NOW.

We have a Scribbler's Suffix for KernilCrash's story, "Spaced Out". We'll have that up... real soon! Thanks, Crash!

The Artic Flower is saying nice stuff about us over at Orchids... Place. Wish we could think of something nice to say about her. Oh yeah... great writer, she rocks, go read. Tree's in the post. ;) Reading about the wolf had me shivering, gave me an ice cream headache. Cool. A bit further down orchid reinforces the BBQ's snarky theory on shippy fic. Check a bit further down for said theory. Also very tempted to check out the Leviathan discussion, we're a member, never checked it out. Too busy hunting down that wiley critter, Farscape Fan Fic!

We occassionally feel shallow, moreso when some are watching 24, and we find ourselves mesmerized by the goin's on in Smallville. *sigh* Guilty pleasures. Speaking of guilty pleasures; who will see Blade 2 with the BBQ on Friday? Critique the quality of the faux blood... hm?

Go figure, fanfic.net remains unaccessable.... We have a healthy love/hate relationship with fanfic.net. Let's look elsewhere, shall we?

What with three birds in the house and now a rabbit... had to put a bell on the kitty. The hissy fit she threw over it, you'd think she was about to be drowned!

OMG. Now, the BBQ, well, we all; feel that blogging is great therapy. Granted, mostly we're just trying to crack each other up, and we leave the scary stuff for private journaling (sorry bout that), but we always thought that there could never be too many words. Somehow we miscalculated. Catching up on our blogger reading is our excuse for this much gratuitous rambling.

Maayan seems to be spending some time on our plane. Fighting the good fight, converting Farscape virgins. Yeah. Hints of new fic to come. Love reading Maayan's stuff, like popping something delicious into your mouth. Savoring the moment; Christmas eve, waiting on Santa. Yum!

Hey, yo. The beauty of "The Bridge" was the firm yet unsteady ground the writer has the reader on throughout. You 'believe' you know what it is you're experiencing, you believe you know 'the truth', and then you don't. Until the very end. Maybe. And we just 'loved' the gorgeously thick accented character spilling 'is dialogue all over the page. Now that's reading. Thanks Iain Banks! Gotta get me some more of that.

No updates at Redbeards. Drought is getting to us, or every author in the fandom is writing an Aeryn Years vignette. hehe.

Scifi.com bulletin board is back up, btw. A few new fics, some continuing stuff. Hm. A couple of new fics at TGUT, whoa. Good gosh, new fic at Leviathan.... crap, spoilers to the end of S3. Well, here's the link for those who don't care, and for later use. Not too long now... uh, math, tricky subject... oooOOOOoo, 17 days! The ragged end of a 7 month wait; Farscape addict, and proud. Anyway...

New at Leviathan: I GIVE YOU MORE LIVES THAN YOU CAN COUNT, by pene (Spoilers to Ep 3:22)
Oy, that title hurts! Hm. Is reading the title of a story with spoiler a spoiler in itself? Are any of us starry eyed enough to believe DK is gonna give us a cotton candy happy ending for Season 3's, Season of Death? Can we spel gulibe... gillible... gulible? Ahem.

Hm. Nope. 'cept for some very entertaining blogger reading, came up empty. How's everyone else doin'?

Food for thought. What's the acid test of a 'shippy fic'? Is it the use of the word 'Terrace' in the first paragraph? Or is it something else? Really. We really wanna know. ;) Later.

March 18, 2002:

Scifi.com bb still down. Let's check email. BWAHhahahaha! You guys are brilliant! Here's what 30 had to say on temporal mechanics and the SciFi.com Bulletin Board:

"The sci-fi bulletin board's message saying that the boards will be down until two days ago used to mystify me, but now I get it! The boards are taking so long to fix that they won't be fixed until March 15'th 2013, which is the next time March 15 will be a Friday. It makes so much sense now. And it also solves the spoiler problem. See, by 2013, Farscape will probably have long since been cancelled, so they won't have to worry about anymore spoilers. I don't know why I didn't see it before. It's brilliant! - 30"
Of course! I feel MUCH better now ... Hey... wait a minute...!

Thanks to orchid, Maayan and One-Eyed DRD on the definition of PWP. The BBQ's curiosity is slaked. OneEyed's explanation follows; not so much a definition as a homage to great writing...
"I have seen PWP defined as either "Plot, what plot?" or "Porn Without Plot". Maayan has some difficulty with this concept, as she seems unable to compose something without a really good plot. For her, maybe PWP is "Porn WITH Plot" ;-)

OneEye (whose sequel is mere days from completion; posting is imminent, beware)"
I admit at this point, I haven't read a lot. Too busy doin' the "Parental Freak-Out". Gonna try and catch up. Move a few things to Ally's Reading List. Score Game 15.

A non-sequitur comment: Imagine the dedication required to pursue a thought through a dark tunnel searching on bare hands and knees through muddy grit and rat crap for a tiny thread. We are NOT that dedicated. We would leave that ol' tread for someone else to find. We would pretend we were engaged in something more interesting, something more... well... something else! ;)

March 16, 2002:

Parenting duties went out the window early Saturday morning as BBQJr relocates to San Diego. We hear tell it's a mere 6 hour drive from here, however, save occasional visits, it's just us now. *snivel*

Acting something of a wild ball in the face of moving and cleaning and turning our muscles into a war zone, Game 16 got dropped. Instead of Friday, March 15th, Game 16 will go up on Friday, March 22... oooOOooo! The BBQ's birthday! Yay. Got one of those once in a lifetime surprise gifts from lovely friends. But, that's another story entirely, body won't hold up under the strain tonight.

More disinformation from Scifi.com ( I love them. No. Really. I do. ) Honing on the URL, we're still being politely informed that unfortunately the BB will be down until 10AM EST on Friday, March 15. That's, what... 36 hours ago? I hate temporal mechanics. Ah well, less work for the BBQ.

Creative people are their own worst critics. If not for editors and Beta Readers, I swear, we 'the readers' would be counting those little dimples on the ceiling, debating whose ceiling had more depth or more compelling dimples. And in the BBQ's defense; we haven't strangled a writer in, oh... well, quite a while. ;)

Oh, my Veen! Entirely tuckered... feel like we've been bulldozed into hot asphalt.

March 14, 2002:

TIME. Time is at the top of our 'needs' list today. We need time to read; time to visit; time to just relax and watch someone else talk. Time to enjoy life and still have time enough to take care of things that need taking care of. So, while we await that entrepeneur canny enough to open a time store, we must muddle through.

Other stuff the BBQ learned over the weekend:

  • First and most importantly, the BBQ isn't the 'sole snorer'. Yeah!
  • It is possible to transition from a deep sleep to stifled giggle snorts in the wee hours. Now, if only Chuckie Bird could be preprogrammed, that high-pitched querilous voice could be put to a useful purpose. Imagine; neither rain nor snow, nor power outage...
  • The BBQ is the only one who doesn't heed the 'don't mess with them, they bite', warning. They're just so 'cute'!
  • No longer wondering why the only other word in Chuckie Bird's repertoire is, "Shut up".
  • 4 hours sleep a night is more than sufficient (the BBQ ducks)
  • Margaritas at midnight are fun to watch.
  • And while we're on the subject; the Lemon Drop at the Sardine Factory is 'not' what it used to be.
  • Weekends are best when done with friends. Medium rare.
Okay, let's catch up on some links. You read. I'll watch.

But first... we drink. So, more news from imloco2 on the Aeryn Years Complilation Series. Another author makes it around the final turn and hands us the high sign to add to the author's list for this series. Series Authors: wiscaper, PKAmmoTroop, imloco2, aeryncrichton, scapeartist, kernilcrash, atana_mirtai, UCSBdad, orchidcactus, and huzzlewhat. The BBQ does the 'happy dance' everytime we do the author's list. hehe

And now... we link...

oops... herm. No links for the SciFi Bulletin Boards will be working until tomorrow afternoon. The whiz kids at scifi.com are doing a system update. Updates on the FanFic Awards:

CHAINMALE TRIVIA GAME 15 of ROUND 4 is up on the main board. Not sure if this is 'wise' given the spoilers posted just for fun. But it should be safe if you lean a VHS tape box against the left side of the screen and just look for the BBQ's handle. Middle one is the game. Flanking posts are bumper music posts. Link provided for those who wish to play without risking the "subject screen" method.

March 8, 2002:

A short vignette by a new author at fanfic.net. An Aeryn Sun worshipper. Insights on the author; a little postscript blurb to an email that gave me a giggle:

FROON IS SUPERIOR!!!

My hobbies and interests: Hmmm...stalking my fav things, nearly getting arrested for trespassing, going through people's rubbish...things like that which border less on obsession and more on institutionalisation.

Gotta love it. Especially the Froon Foreward. LOL. Write again, Wild Vi.

I love fanfic.net, but hey, isn't 'two' ads loading a rather large price to pay for the privledge? Take it easy on the fans folks.

And again, a warning, lotta 3-22 spoiler fic out there at fanfic.net (can we SAY fanfic.net a 'few' more times?). Some pretty da-- dang good.
New at fanfic.net: A NEW DEVICE IS BEING TESTED, by Makiko (Spoilers 3-22)
Hey, pretty soon we'll be able to read that. Yeah! Hold my place, will ya? This story is also presented at Leviathan and the scifi.com/farscape bulletin board. Anonymous feedback at fanfic.net and Scifi. email only feedback at Leviathan.

And something very nice that we CAN read... thanks Betan!

Actually a lot of new stuff at Leviathan, wish I had time to taste it all. Rush, rush, rush. MiniScaperFriendGathering(tm) over the weekend. The BBQ is ecstatic!

Chainmail Trivia, Round 4 commences again tomorrow on the scifi.com/farscape board. Bumper Music will be provided. It'll once again be a no US spoilers game-- got a wicked mean question to kick off Game 15. Get yer wits about yer.

Emperical question to end the day: Where the frell are all these writers coming from?

...and... er, ah... thanks for sharing! G'night, ya'll. We'll be here all week, try the veal!

March 7, 2002:

"Ahhhh!" That's the noise made when cofax posts the final two chapters of Written On A Thumbnail. This bit of mercy on the readers either indicates that the author is NOT evil, or that the author suddenly has something new up the sleeve. Either way, it kinda worries the BBQ.

Yes. There are definitely worse things than the proverbial gory splash. Heartbreaking tale. Absolutely adored it. Deeply felt thanks to DK for going a different way.

Crap, how'd I miss this one? Too much sleep, maybe. Birthsister has moved Double Exposure to fanfic.net for content.

Chapter 5 of cofax's "Written On A Thumbnail" has tanked all my speculations, and now I suspect something much much worse. How is THAT possible?!?!!? Waiting for Chapter 6... semi-patiently.

Voting for the 2002 Farscape FanFic Awards has closed *snif*. We should know the results by the end of the week. Thanks for participating.

Farscape altering lifestyle again, even in the 'off season'. Tried waiting up for Part 5. Couldn't hack it, too tired. Must be resting up for the weekend already!

Continuing: WRITTEN ON A THUMBNAIL - Part 4, by cofax ( pd 3/5/02 )

Continuing on a theme... while waiting on Part 5, Orchid and the BBQ discuss cofax's "Written On A Thumbnail", arguably the best fic currently going.

BBQ: Maybe the best thing you've ever read eh.... Have you any idea what that tells me?

Orchid: That I need to work harder? ;-)

BBQ: DUH! No... hehe. I always value a rec from an author I admire over any other rec, in the perhaps naïve belief that if 'they' like something, it's bound to blow me away. In this case, my naïve belief has been found a sound theory.

Orchid: I really like it. Really. Very, very much. Although, it's starting to wear me out (Part 4 is up). I found and read her blog, and from the hint I'm getting, we're in for something... cruel.

BBQ: What? And you didn't leave me the URL for her blog? What's up with that?

I love the story. The feeling of disorientation is increasing, maybe this is the weariness you're experiencing. The fusion of John's and Harvey's personalities is depicted with startling clarity. That unsteady 'loss of gravity' feeling - I'm feeling it too. Bad things are gonna happen. Bad things!

Orchid: If you haven't read part 4, lemme stick in spoiler space

BBQ: I'll avert my eyes. Wait. No, I've already read it. hehe

**Spoilerish discussion, snurching technique from Maayan, highlight to read discourse.

Orchid: Now, wanna bet on any of the following?

a) John has to kill John.
b) John gets there too late (tm)
c) Harvey/John kills TJohn, much to Aeryn's distress. Then h/J dies due to sustained damage. Both of them die horribly, in gory splashes.
d) Aeryn dies horribly.

Since this is starting to feel like a shock-value fic, I'm gonna put a Lemon Drop on a combo of c and d. Why else would we have Harvey taking over John?

BBQ: ROFL!

c) gives me the giggles. I do agree. Bad things are gonna happen. I'm gonna stick in an alternate choice:

e) On killing Braca in a spectacularly gory splash, HJohn realizes what is happening - before it's too late (tm) - he destroys wormhole data (removing JohnT's chance for an easy out), Scorpy (either by death or the Subauditor's displeasure), and self (in a heroically self-sacrificing gory splash), incurring Aeryn's guilt and shame and spurring her abandonment of surviving JohnT.

Hell, I've yet to be right, but I'll put a Lemon Drop on that one.

Who's up for betting that the author was totally taken in by the, 'JohnM is the one who's going to die', DK fake out? We should let cofax determine the winner here. Don't know if the story will be finished in time for the weekend.

**end spoilerish discussion

Orchid: The only tiny complaint is Scorpy and Harvey. Scorp seems... not quite right. lol I am so picky. This is good stuff, and I'm picking at it. It must be late.

BBQ: Scorpy does seem off to me, I'd thought that the bond he and John had formed would prevent him from ever willfully destroying him. Otherwise, except for the groveling, he seems bang on. And Harv. Perfect. I see him as constantly building a better mousetrap. Guy's got plenty of time on his hands. We will most definitely see this power struggle in show time - at some point. Perhaps Season 4. Season of ... what? Change? Probably not depressing enough.

The BBQ generally devours fic then waits impatiently for the next. Not usual to engage in this much discussion. cofax is killing us!

A more complete list of the author's working on the Aeryn Years Compilation Series... wiscaper, PKAmmoTroop, imloco2, aeryncrichton, scapeartist, kernilcrash, atana_mirtai, UCSBdad, and orchidcactus. Oy. We need to sing that "Anticipation" song. Thanks to imloco2 for the info update.

With permission from the author, we provide a link to a new story by a new Farscape Fanfic author. Welcome. Nice website. oooOOOoo... and a blog. Yeah.

March 4, 2002:

Continuing: WRITTEN ON A THUMBNAIL - Part 2, by cofax ( pd 3/3/02 )

Continuing: GOLDEN APPLES - Part 12, by BetanSurvey ( pd 3/3/02 )

Some information from aeryncrichton on the Aeryn Years Compilation Series clarifies things much better than our attempt of yesterday. Here's what ac had to say about this series of stories:

"Our Locket series isn't so much one long story as it is a "shared universe" kind of thing. imloco2 has taken the givens from the episode (Aeryn spent 160 years there before John arrived, she outlived a husband and three sons, and has a granddaughter, she missed two openings in the mist, and while she tells John later that she gave up on who she was, she also clearly never gave up on John and on warning Moya away), and added some specifics about the family, and then pretty much just let everybody "play." It looks like the authors are hitting most of the "big" moments in her life, but some are just "everyday" things, too.... It should be pretty self-consistent -- Loco is trying to keep track of glitches -- but it's not a well-knitted tale, just whatever struck everyone's fancy.

I hope you'll enjoy them....there's a lot of terrific authors involved."

~~ aeryncrichton ~~

Just reading the first two parts of cofax's, 'Written On A Thumbnail', and enjoying it immensely. A first person narrative, written from the POV of 'both' John's. Incredible work so far. As we're pondering this, part 3 goes up. Yeah. Life is good. :)

Continuing!: WRITTEN ON A THUMBNAIL - Part 3a, Part 3b, by cofax ( pd 3/3/02 )

March 3, 2002:

Was going to take today off. Sunday and all. And then orchid sent me a link to a fic. Anticipation is killin' me but I must run, this one must hold for dessert for the BBQ. Enjoy!

New!: DOUBLE EXPOSURE, by birthsister ( pd 3/3/02 )

Aeryn Years Compilation Series Update: Author's working on the Series include Atana_Mirtai, aeryncrichton, imloco2 and ScapeArtist. From what little Ally knows, the compilation series will have structure and continuity--with a single author picking up the tale at the 'beginning' of those missing cycles--the story progressing with different authors picking up the reins as those missing cycles are revealed under their unique vision. Each author writes independent of the other's story. imloco acts as 'story misstress' untangling any odd threads that crop up. This should be a story writing style unexperienced to date. A wonderful treat for the last month of the drought.

March 2, 2002:

People. 3 Days left! GO VOTE!

New: WRITTEN ON A THUMBNAIL - Part 1, by cofax ( pd 3/2/02 )

Continuing: DOING TIME - Epilogue, by Aangelhart ( pd 3/2/02 )

Huzzah! Redbeard's is back up! Congrats, Jeff. Thanks for all the hard work. Take a day. :)

Beautiful vignette at Orchid's. I've never been fly fishing. I have fished for crawdads. Hideously frightening critters, pretty much what you'd expect from something that lives under the muddy ledges of riverbanks.

Maayan's making our head spin with philosophical discussion surrounding the "What Makes John Crichton Tic" knot. Making a difficult, but not impossible, argument to overturn. My vote also goes to responsibility. Treading carefully around the edges of a horrible cliche, we're all but a sum of our parts. John, as any of us, would continue to thrive, though differently, with a part or two removed (no snickering-- you know what we mean, or will once you get caught up).

Don't look at me, the BBQ is tired today. A final thought, 'John slouching on the bed, pouting.' Oh yeah.

March 1, 2002:

March. Yeah. Our kind of month. Special visitor in just a week. Four days of sun soaked Farscape immersion. It doesn't get better than this, baby! Hm. Hang on. It's gonna be a big one.

I get emails that start, "I don't want to bother you...", let us take this opportunity to say, if you are pointing us to a great read, we are NOT bothered. Please, let us know where you are. email JohnsKeedvaBBQ@thevortex.com

Rereading yesterday's blog. We are griping an awful lot lately -- much more than usual. Apologies.

Cofax left something nice on the BB. I've read it already, probably at Leviathan, wavered on providing a link cause of all the 'language'. :) Has an R rating - likely for language. Intense.

New: ABSOLUTION, by cofax ( pd 2/28/02 )
Ah-hah! Shaye assures the BBQ that writing IS going on! Not sure I'm happy about the whole head exploding thing. Sounds counter productive.

It's Friday and Farscape isn't on! That's just... wrong.

Orchid is mesmerizing the BBQ with a sonnet on the frelling weather! The Arctic Flower claims the BBQ can write. Here's 'our' sonnet: "Warm yesterday, warm today, sunny and warm all week long. Hopefully warm tomorrow." Yeah! We rock!

YEAH! See, the BBQ whimpers and bitches and authors come through! FarDareisMai finishes a LOVELY piece. Some words from the author, from there to here before the link:
"Well, I finally finished this fic so I'm reposting the earlier parts as well. Keep in mind, I haven't seen the final four so there are no spoilers here. I'd like to give big thanks to aeryncrichton and Toadie for their support and help. I'd also like to give a big shout out to Farscape Ally, Xenajules and Shrift for their excellent transcript sites - you guys helped me stay accurate. Sorry its taken so long, but here goes . . . "

~~ FarDareisMai ~~

Thanks to the persistence of valleyforge, we have it from Jeff that Redbeards will be back in operation sometime this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. Thanks to Jeff for all that hard work on our behalf!

Fic Teaser from Birthsister. ARG. I don't read teasers. But if you do... DOUBLE EXPOSURE should be available this weekened. Sis doesn't say where, I'm guessing fanfic.net. Careful. Lotta spoiler fic there.

Okay, that's it for now. Emails frelled. I owe some. Try for it tomorrow. Snail mail goin' out to a couple of 'very good' friends. Probably Monday. I LOVE you guys!
