BLOG ARCHIVE #2: February 2002

February 28, 2002:

Wasted all available time in chat. Bad BBQ, bad! Lesse if we can dredge something out of the vault. Hm. Details on the Creation Con in San Francisco, April 6 & 7 are up! The BBQ and Hibachi will be there with bells on. Who came up with that one? Just gonna do day passes and accost Ginny and Kent! Whoo hoo! Er... the BBQ means 'accost' in a friendly and loving way. Hole up in the hotel, check out the Orpheum on Saturday night. Be a City Mouse for a weekened. Wonder what's playin'?

Has anyone noticed how 'often' Waterworld is on cable television-- or how much crap is on the SciFi Channel? I do not know why I keep 'looking' for something to watch when I know there won't be anything worth the time, until April 2002. I keep noticing how much inane crap is on the SciFi Channel. Is anyone else worried they'll go bust before April? Are we all still sane? I toy with the idea of watching the Grammy's. Award shows fail me. Those Who Choose, never seem to make my choices. There's always the newspaper tomorrow.

Is anyone writing?

*sigh* Redbeards is still down. Does Jeff know how much we depend on him for our FanFicFix? Maybe we should shower Jeff with our love, as a gesture of support? Wish I had his email. Hm.

The television is moaning at me in the background, just in time I turn to get an eyeful of a local vehicle seller. Is acting 'that' hard? Update on the FF Awards Voting Information. Link added to one of the stories in the Ficletini Category: Forgiveness. Thanks!

February 27, 2002:

Well, hey, looks as though every author out there is working on The Aeryn Years Compilation Series. 12 'very' familiar authors will be penning portions of those pesky unaccounted for years on the Favored Planet. Now, I realize John wasn't there during the time to be accounted for, however, I have faith that our spunky little astronaut will invade a few tales. I'm seeing Aeryn's aged face in my minds-eye, hearing her voice, wistful and quivering with age, "I'd forgotten how beautiful you are." Nope, no long frustrated desire there. :)

Can't wait!

Closing on the final days for voting in the 2002 Farscape FanFic Awards. Last day to vote is March 5, 2002. Winners announced March 10th. Go Vote!

I'm told some of the blog sounds like it's written in Greek. Let's face it folks, sometimes the BBQ is just ranting in the dark. How does one get shrimp drippings out of a slinky black dress?

If you love reading, writing, and especially if you love language... or you were a Persian in another life... you simply MUST pop in at Divine Collective and read Maayan's Blog. Without wishing to draw too much attention or worse cause undue embarrassment, it's simply lovely over there. Like curling up on a plush cushion on the fringes of a reading group, sipping an aromatic coffee, letting the rush of steam warm your nose. I hear softly muted voices as I read. And that's the 'last' we'll rant about it. If you aren't already going there, immersing yourself, nothing the BBQ can say will get you there. Bundle up.

That rant put me in mind of what KernilCrash had to say in the Author's Afterword for Voices of Reason. That the act of writing sharpens the senses, makes the words luminous, overflowing with life of their own. Reading does the same. I've never enjoyed reading so much in my life, and enjoy it more and more everyday.

Ah, wait long enough and ye will be rewarded:

February 26, 2002:

Orchid's back up to speed after a nasty bout. Some grim thoughts about the conflict between 'real' conflict and fiction, the idealization of heroes. Pretty deep stuff, at least hubby doesn't go about unarmed. [eg] I actually have some thoughts on this - watch out for flyin' email!

Redbeards is down for maintenance. *gasp* Gotta get out our bait.

BetanSurvey posts Chapter 11 of "Golden Apples". This story has got the most amazing, and most in-depth original characters it's been my pleasure to be acquainted with. Read on.

Continuing: GOLDEN APPLES - Chapter 11, by BetanSurvey ( pd 2/25/02 )
unohoo completes her response to BetanSurvey's "Won't Happen In S4" challenge. This absolutely cannot be beat. Although I wouldn't put it past DK to have the cast singing in tights before the end of S4. So maybe not. The Filk is a parody of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado"
Concluded: THE HIGH COMMANDER - Act 1, Act 2 - A Filk, by unohoo
Hey, unohoo, we'll talk more soon about that "good" angst, "bad" angst theory. Just need a few free moments to rub together to put some coherent thought into an email.
Challenge Response: DOING TIME, by Angel X - J/A RecFic ( pd 2/24/02 )
KernilCrash is very very good to Ally and sets us up with a lovely afterword (here dubbed "Scribbler's Suffix" by the author), for the astoundingly great "Voices of Reason". Bear with me while I figure out the whole linking to the afterword from the fic thing. Here's the Link to the afterword, enjoy:
Author's Afterword to Voices of Reason, by KernilCrash

February 25, 2002:

I miss Only Human, but the BBQ is not one to stand in the way of an evolve. Links updated to reflect this. Visit Divine Collective.

Part of The Whole Brain provided a lovely afterword to "East Of Hezamana", links are active. For all the authors we've asked to write an afterword for their stories archived here; take a look, see: easy peasy. It's not a requirement to make it a funny tale, or a deep insightful tale-- although I'm half convinced that the author would have to suffer from some type of brain dysfunction-- but you can see how simple it is to write an afterword (yeah I know, "easy for you to say"). What's great about the afterword is that it's a way to 'revisit' the tale, and plant that yearning to read the story, reread the story, or maybe give a chance to read the story a bit from the author's pov. Thanks to the Right Brain for this enlightening afterword. Hopefully we'll be hearing from the Left Brain soon. I'm giggling as I write this. Here's a link directly to "Author's Afterword - East of Hezmana" Hope we got that right, we get our brains mixed up.

Continuing: HAPPILY EVER AFTER - Part 13, by Still_Waters ( pd 2/24/02 )
Maayan's dreams come near reality in her blog of Sunday, February 24, 2002. Is this the genesis of storytelling? Another reason I like to hang around at Divine Collective.

When we spend too much time hunting for fic we don't spend any time on transcripts! Arg! Why isn't there more time in a day?

More intel on the Aeryn Years Compilation Series. More author's jumping onboard, looks like a total of eight so far. The BBQ is very psyched!

February 24, 2002:

Been readin' the blog over at Orchid's and Maayan's. When there's nothing else, it's just fine and dandy to read the inner workings of imagination. Maayan demonstrates what must be another reason I love Divine Collective, all her favorites are mine as well. Just one tiny little whine, I believe it is "That all my days have been a dream", but that's just from memory so I 'could' be wrong (yeah, right). Hey, I love those little summaries of why the stories are her favorites. A bit of enticement to have the reader bear down just a tad over those links.

I have to comment on why I don't comment 'much' on where the show is going vis a vis character development. And, unsurprisingly, it's for those reasons outlined in Maayan's blog of 2/22/02. The character's are much too complex, making it virtually impossible to accurately predict what is going to happen. Whether they can 'live without each other' is already answered. Whether Aeryn 'needs' John, or vice versa is also answered. Whether the intensity of that need is a guiding force? Answered. But, hell, can this tell us that J/A will be together again as a 'couple'? Only DK knows for sure. IMO of course. And so the futility of the discussion just makes me yearn for April and June all the more.

All that for a couple of links. Maybe some more fic later. Meantime, if there's anything on Maayan's Favorites you haven't read yet, do yourself a favor.

Hm. And go figger. I am wrong-- it is "That My Days Have Been A Dream"-- where do I get these ideas?

Searching all my regular haunts, wasting a lot of time looking for something readable and not spoilerish-- not succeeding very well. *sigh* Worked on transcript today. The BBQ's minimalist skills are coming along nicely, counting scenes and everything, still can't avoid the occassional editorial comment. So, lacking anything else to do.... GO VOTE! There are only 8 days remaining to vote *ding* the car is now accelerating. I think sis went to see 'Queen of the Damned' without me. Hm. Wonder what she'll say.

Somewhere there is slinkyness and shrimp happening. And it finally hit me, that we are assisting in the tainting of the English Language, ahlot. Thanks, inky.

February 23, 2002:

Really reaching now. Kory from VA gives us a headsup on a Crossover Fic of a different color. Farscape/Highlander. This story is a nice lengthy lovely read, part 1 of a planned 5 part story. Perused the story a bit, worth a looksee, first blush looks more like a Highlander/Farscape story, but it's only the first part, so, here's the link. Thanks, Kory.

New at Seventh-Dimension: THE FARSCAPE PROJECT, by Dawn Cunningham
Cast an eyeball on Dawn's other work over at, uh, Dawn's. Read, enjoy, send feedback, ask the author why she isn't writing Farscape/Farscape Fic. [eg]

Atana bravely treads the waters of unohoo's J/A Reconcilliation (without benefit of near death experiences and/or grievous bodily injury) Challenge. Check 'er out.
Challenge Response: BLINK - Part 1, Part 2, by Atana_Mirtai ( pd 2/22/02 )
Lemme just say, 'wow'. Thanks, Atana, wonderful as usual. And unohoo didn't even pitch a qualm over the angst. :)

Pardon, tryin' to type, but it's hard while chuckling. Ficletini, answering challenge, by Seti_Fan got me a titterin'. I'm not gonna say, you gotta figure it out yourself. hehe
Challenge Response: COLLAPSE - a ficletini, by SETI_fan ( pd 2/22/02 )
And another challenge response, this one to BetanSurvey's "...won't happen in S4". Only response so far, maybe the parameters were too broad. Hey, anything that has us referring to JC as "Nanki-Poo" is aces in my book. hehe It's fair to say that this 'probably' won't happen in S4... then again...
Challenge Response: THE HIGH COMMANDER, by unohoo ( pd 2/22/02 )

February 22, 2002:

Not fic, but just as frelling good, news from the, um... lessee... how to put this, how to put this? Uh, 'mind' of KernilCrash. Check it out!

Oh, and while I'm rambling. What's the skinny on the Aeryn Years Compilation Series from those lovely selected authors working on the unseen interlude on the Favored Planet? Is there a plan? Is one author covering the initial stranding, with the final author covering the moments prior to Moya's reappearance -- the other's sprinkled in between like that cool stuff in the middle of an oreo? Or is it gonna be haphazard, everyone pouncing on whatever plot element struck their fancy? Hm? Really, we readers (Ally's speakin' for the readers here), really wanna know. Really. Loco?

Challenge Response: LEGS - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, by UCSBDad - ShortSkirt Challenge ( pd 2/21/02 )
Thought of something else while dreaming, 'course now it's forgotten. Hm...

Challenge Response: CUPID, by KimberlyBlue - J/A RecFic ( pd 2/20/02 )
Oh, and thewholebrain grants permission for Ally to archive "East of Hezmana". Excellent story in script format. Check it out. Thanks to both sides of the Brain.
New in Ally's Archive: EAST OF HEZMANA, by thewholebrain
Now that "Voices of Reason" is complete, I feel fic sated. Apparently so do a lot of people. Keep checking links provided ALL over this page and over at Anne's FanFiction Links page for new stuff-- I'd like to hear about it as much as you. :) For now, gonna reread "Voices", and work on Transcripts. Pretty soon it'll be less than 30 days to the new eps. Ally's feelin' the 'pressure'. Later on.

February 20, 2002:

KernilCrash brings us the final chapters of the exquisitely crafted, "Voices of Reason". Enjoy, and let Crash know what you thought of the story. Post reply to the link provided below, or send an email. Thanks, Crash!

ooooOOOO! Grammykins provides a link to story's by Michael Cassut! Whoo hoo! Thanks, Grammykins! Read Grammykins' post for cool add'l info - or if, *gasp*, you've got no clue who Michael Cassut is! (For shame! hehe) - er, this is the last post on the page, so watch out for those bottom of the page link spoilers.

February 19, 2002:

Counting was never the BBQ's strong suit. I hope I haven't hopelessly confused anyone attempting to read the Chapters of Voices of Reason- in order! All fixed.

Added links to Orchid's, Maayan's, and Redbeards uptop, 'cause I'm sick of searching through this page to find 'em. And I go there ahlot.

KernilCrash posts Chapter 12, Voices of Reason. And KC, that's just mean! LOL. Here's the links:

February 18, 2002:

Cripes, I'm such a weenie when it comes to encountering spoilers. I have it from Maayan that while she does have spoilers at Divine Collective, they are throughly protected from casual view. This is a gorgeous site and great fun to read. Shamelessly snurched a pic for my desktop last time I was there. All kinds of eye and mind candy there. Thanks for the advisement, Maayan!

KernilCrash posts Chapter 11 of Voices of Reason. Finished reading it myself half a second ago. Man, I LOVE this story! A true roller coaster ride in David Kemper's fine tradition! Crash- you ROCK!

Whew. Finally got caught on up the summary and tally for Round 4 of Chainmale Trivia. Check out the Current Standings in Round 4 on the CHAINMALE TRIVIA main page. The links to all games, and game summaries are listed on the CMT GAME INDEX page. Let me be the first to say: About time!

Shipscat took in the CMT Special: Crichton Chronicles, earning herself a Fluffy Doll. Round 4 Standings have Revolos55 still in the lead with Xenajules2 close behind. CMT Round 4 will continue with Game 15 on March 8, 2002.

A sudden change in publication dates, and we get Crash's, "Voices of Reason", Chapter 10 two days early. Yeah. That's a bit of rescheduling the BBQ can live with! Crash tells us to expect a new chapter each day, til the finale on Wednesday. I just have one question at this point; how many more hurdles is John Crichton gonna have to take for KernilCrash? Read on.

On orchid's recc, popped over at Divine Collective. I've been avoiding it 'cause Maayan is one of those reviled UKer's getting S3 before those 'less priviledged' - she has some thoughts on the writing of her new fic, specifically about writing 'Aeryn' that amazed me, left me speechless, wordless, whatever. Check it out.

Speaking of which.
New At Divine Collective: THE ELEVENTH HOUR, by Maayan ( pd 2/17/02 ) - Spoilers; eps 3:19-22
Like orchidcactus over at Orchid's Archive, Maayan has finally posted some original fiction of which I intend to sup deeply. On first blush it seems safe to view the content of the fiction page over at Divine Collective.

I've been reading too much, think my brain is about to immolate itself. What a way to go!

February 16, 2002:

Oh, fer... well, ramble, ramble, ramble. Think I'll make this a quickie. Mailbag, check please!

oops. First. All the new perky stuff at Orchid's inspires me to 'finally' archive the blog. Whoo Hoo. August 2000 (blog incept date) to January 2001, archived. Until something better strikes my fancy, the archive link is-up there. Also separated the Author's Collections from Ally's Reading list. Now, on to the mailbag.

OMG! Someone with the dubious handle of "THEWHOLEBRAIN", posts a story in 'script' format, that we, uh, gotta take note of-- 'cause this is a really NICE way of writing script format for the bboard (lack of formatting capability being-of course-a factor). uh, wow.

New!!!!: EAST OF HEZAMANA - by, thewholebrain ( pd 2/16/02 )
Uh, wow. Hm. Wonder if LG accepts 'write-in' votes for the 2002FFA. Is that 'thewholebrain' thing a riff on the whole 10%'er thing? :D

Ah, finally, author provides links to all chapters of ongoing fic. Ally's gotta check this one out. Save my place, please.
Continuing: NEVER SAY GOODBYE - Parts: 1, 2, 3, 4, by, NurseKittyKat
There - said I wasn't gonna ramble, and see! Ah well. One more challenge response and then this baby gets put to bed.

Okay, let's check the mailbag. See what's what.

unohoo issued a challenge that Ally thought would be impossible to meet. We all agreed-- it was a toughie. But folks have risen to the challenge and we're interested to see how it'll all come out. Here tis.
New Challenge: J/A Reconcilliation Fic :: unohoo
Here's the content of the challenge to save fuss over the bb. But first a question: Has ANYONE gone to see a movie that was advertised at the bb? I mean, I wanna do a little ass kickin', but not for the movie! But I digress. Content of the following challenge shamelessly ripped from unohoo's post:
J/A Reconciliation Fic Challenge:

What? Unohoo is issuing a J/A challenge? Have I lost my marbles? [BBQ Note: Uh. Good question! :-]

Here’s the challenge. I want to see J/A reconcile without having either badly hurt or tortured or near death. I’d like to see them reconcile because they are working well together, and/or because of something really silly that is happening and they find that they are enjoying each others company, and/or anything else that doesn’t involve a torture or near death experience.

Any other characters can be involved, including the black hats. And this isn’t a SACC challenge, so some minor injuries are acceptable (they can be funny too, a little slapstick is always welcome).

Whaddaya think gang. I know you can do it!
See. Told'ja. Toughie. Here are the responses so far:
Challenge Response: UNTITLED, by Scifer - J/A RecFic ( pd 2/14/02 )

Challenge Response: HOME AGAIN, by aeryncrichton - J/A RecFic ( pd 2/14/02 ) Brilliant.
And more Bedroom Fic.
Challenge Response:REACHING OUT, by Angel - Bedroom Fic ( pd 2/15/02 ) - some applause for a new author. Excellent story, Angel. Welcome!
More good clean fun. Voting in the Romance Contest over at the Dominar's Domain is now in full swing. Seven stories to vote for, they are: Planet of the Blondes, Nothing Left to Lose, Body Heat, Letting Go, Pilgrim Soul, Heartbeats, and Half of It. Vote for the Best In Romance at the Dominar's Domain. And while youre in a voting mood: GO VOTE! It's the price you pay for living in a free country. Well, a mostly moderately priced country anyway.

ROFL! Dumbass mistake caught by a new friend way over there in Germany. Prequel/sequel. Sheeshies. All fixed. Thanks, Moni.

Okay, gonna try to cut down on the acronyms. The occassional colorful metaphor tends to fly, unretrieved, from Ally's fingers. Maybe this thang should be rated PG13? Was going to add/look at something else-can't remember what. So, off. Ta. Gotta go do the laundry-no clean undies-did I say that outloud? -Later-

February 14, 2002:

Happy Valentine's Day! imloco2 provides us with a kick-ass fic, thanks! To enjoy you should go back and read (or reread, depending on your bent) "What Goes Around...", after(?) reading "Healing Touch". Ally's just a tiny bit confused. But, loco loves to do that. Links provided courtesy of the author. Enjoy!

Sequel?: WHAT GOES AROUND - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, by imloco2

New: THE HEALING TOUCH - Part 1, Part 2, by imloco2 - Prequel to "What Goes Around"( pd 2/14/02 )
KernilCrash posts Part 8 of VOICES OF REASON. Local archive of this fic also updated. Check Ally's Archive for the link.

Uhoh, gotta wait til 'after' work tomorrow to read Part 9. Well... least I'll get outta here on time tomorrow! hehe

And one more thing, Atana_Mirtai provides 'just' for the day:
New: "And So He Kissed Me" - GEM Tag, by Atana_Mirtai ( pd 2/14/02 )
Have a great day!

February 13, 2002:

Okay, thanks to KernilCrash for authorizing Farscape Ally to archive "VOICES OF REASON" as a wip (work in progress). I'll update as additional chapters are posted. Email to Crash is available on the fic, the Kernil gives express permission to email your feedback. Please do so, your encouragement, as well as objective (an occassionally subjective) feedback is always valued by the writer.

Thanks to aeryncrichton for catching me with me pants down! :) Pesky links fixed.

OoooOOOOOOoo! Wednesday the 13th! hehe

Thanks to Tracy, Lorna and Rebecca-Rebecca-Rebecca for givin' the BBQ that shot to the head we needed! The fic that was diggin' around in the back 'o me head was "DeEvolution", by Speedbump. Speedy... livin' up to that thar handle! Posted part one of this engaging story waaaaaaaaaaay back on January 4th! Now--the BBQ don't cotton to buggin' the author's unnecessarily (ouch)--if we did, we would'a been naggin' Angela somethin fierce! However; in extreme cases, I believe we are permitted to lurk in the dark spaces and flick peanuts at the author's head as they hunch over their work, sweating bullets. (I'm gonna get in trouble for this, aren't I?)

Oh, and hey, updates at RedBeards. Jeff adds some cooler links for the "Sort By Author", so the BBQ won't have to guess which page 'S'haye's fics are on! Whoo Hoo! MORE bells and whistles!

I have it on good authority (snerk) that the Arctic Flower will be posting the complete fic "Are We Having Fun Yet?" on her site pretty dang soon (having sworn off the bb). Keep an eye out at Orchid's Archive, for another great story from orchidcactus. Um, nope, not there 'yet', but she's reworked the site, added a means for providing anonymous feedback (which I'm gonna hafta steal--hehe), AND-- added a blog! Too cool! Something more for the BBQ's ravenous readers appetitetm!

Okay, lets check the mailbag for the recc's from Ally's Little Helpers. *BBQ whistles tuneless-like while waiting*

Well, it should come as no surprise that very little in the way of FanFiction is happening on the BBoard. Of what little there is, there is no assurance that spoilers won't be inserted into reply subjects of the FanFic that *is* posted. That being said, if the author inserts space BELOW the story, keeping the reply posts well out of sight, it should be possible to read any story, somewhat safely (esp. if 'bumper' posts are inserted before and after the fic), and even provide feedback, as long as you use something to block the screen as you scroll down to the "post reply" button. All this courtesy of KernilCrash, who is still hoping you'll brave the board to continue reading and commenting on the exceptional yarn being spun in "Voices of Reason".

Continuing: VOICES OF REASON, by KernilCrash ( pd 2/13/02 )
That's all she wrote. Go Vote!

February 12, 2002:

Here's the Skinny on the 2002 FANFIC AWARDS. Just a Q&D thing to help you out.

Back from an out of town junket, goofing off for a couple of days is great drought therapy. Let's take a peek in the mailbag, see what's the haps.

I understand that spoilers abound on the Farscape BB, it's not safe, probably won't be safe until after ep 3:22 airs in the US. If you wish to remain spoiler free, you gotta stay outta the board.

Catching up myself on a few of the longer running fics:

NEW CHALLENGE: NOT GONNA HAPPEN IN S4, from BetanSurvey ( pd 2/11/02 )

Response to Challenge: MY MUSE HATES ME, by aeryncrichton ( pd 2/11/02 )
As we head further into the drought period following the airing of the final four in the UK, it's my fear that spoilers will begin creeping into fanfiction. Writers should provide cautionary words if they have seen the final episodes, and if spoilers could be present in the story. Same caution for readers, spoilers should not be provided in feedback, thereby spoiling the author. Life just gets trickier, don't it?

Okay, and call me incredibly forgetful, but I've read part 1 of a fic wherein' John gets, er, 'collected' by alien slavers and ends up allllll alone with no Aeryn to haul his ashes out of the fire. I can't remember the name of the story. Heck, the link to part 1 is probably right here on this page! LOL. Help?!?!?! Anyone know the fic I'm referring to, and if additional parts have been posted... anywhere?

February 10, 2002:

Well, I didn't upload my Feb 9 update. oopsie. Sorry 'bout that. An here it is already the 10th. Well... sorta.

February 9, 2002:

So... I'm entertaining the idea of archiving the blog-- it's gettin' frellin' huge, and then I decide to evaluate what to archive and what to keep on the main page. I begin counting the Challenge Responses. At one point I had delusions of archiving the best of these responses, right here. So... I begin counting. 166. One-hundred-and-frelling-sixty-six Challenge Responses. Just as it stands-- right now. I still gotta get caught up on the last couple of weeks and the last 3-4 challenges posted.

166.

Uh. Wow.

Advisement from the author on the next installment of "Are We Having Fun Yet?"-- but beware, spoiler on the board in close proximity, so don't use the links at the bottom of the story to read the adjacent articles or you will be spoiled.

BetanSurvey is earning those "Little Helper" ears, with a whole passle of links for us, including something new and tasty by aeryncrichton. One day ac will have to share her super writer/beta/penpal formula. Wouldn't it be great to have your Flintstones vitamin or super power shake, and then be able to write that well, that often, and still have time for Beta'ing and schmoozin? A few more of those Muse Challenge links, including Dad's, wordboy's and PKChuck's (hey, Chuck). While Betans is still pending, it seems that orchids is unretrievable as it ended up a side-by-side post with the evil spoiler postTM, which must mean that the Arctic Flower is well and truly spoiled for the final four. (Evil spoiler people... where's my boiling oil when I really need it?) Hey, oc, can you repost your Muse response. I read mine and very nearly had to indulge in a change on undies, laughing so hard. Another new author chimin' in. Welcome, NurseKittyKat. Maybe we should introduce RN Kitty to Ms. Kitty, whaddaya think, Ships? Crash is really crankin' on Voices of Reason, and more Complete Denial Fic from Still_Waters. After all this rambling, the links are just down there. Thanks, B!

But first, the 'list': 2002 Farscape FanFic Awards Finalists - apologies for the alliteration. Voting opens soon, I hope.

February 7, 2002:

All hail the PacBell Gods! The BBQ's line is crystal clear and back up to usual speed. Wonder how long it'll last.

Updates at Redbeards, notice courtesy of the great Robyn Bender. Main attraction at Redbeards is the ability to give that good as gold 'quickie feedback'. What can be easier, or more anonymous than giving a story a rating, 1-10? Hop over and read/review/share the love for: "Bookends", by KernilCrash, "Until Now", by PKBabey. And as icing on the cake for all you legitimate adults, there's the stellar NC-17 rated, "Just Tell Me What You Want", by RobynBender (an expanded version prepatory to a larger story). This is all good stuff! And don't forget "Walls Of Jericho", by birthsister, added to the site on January 30th.

2002 FANFIC AWARDS UPDATE: Technical difficulties. Awards hostess hoping to thrash it all out by Friday, February 8, 2002. Very excited to see the final three selected for each category as the voting begins. Hang in there!

February 6, 2002:

February 5, 2002:

Finished Still_Water's fic "HAPPILY EVER AFTER", up to Part 11, and I'm now suffering with all the other readers of this fic, waiting for Part 12. Anything I might say would be something of a spoiler, so lemme just say. Thanks, Still_Waters, for the links (presented on Feb 4 entry).

Everyone say hey to Loren, again. "Hey, Loren!" Providing links to the following stories. The BBQ got caught up on Crash's "VOICES OF REASON", today. Incredible story, flawlessly written. Action packed and extraordinarily yummy!

And a special thanks to Loren for providing the link to orchidcactus's new story, "ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?" - The BBQ is dying to read this one. The Arctic Flower never ceases to amaze and vastly entertain with action oriented narratives written in mouthwatering prose. You go, oc!

Challenge Fic: ENTHUSIASM, by ScapeArtist - Bedroom Challenge ( pd 2/5/02 )

Continuing!: VOICES OF REASON - Part 4, by KernilCrash ( pd 2/5/02 )

New!: ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?, by orchidcactus ( pd 2/5/02 ) Crap! It's comin' in parts. Here's what Loren had to say on the read: "Just finished reading "Fun Yet" and yay! It's a Chiana fic! Not only is it a Chiana fic, but it's a GOOD Chiana fic! *g* Can't wait for further parts..." You an' me both, Loren. :)

Challenge Fic: LOVER'S HAVEN, by imloco2 - Bedroom Challenge ( pd 2/5/02 )
Scaper2001 posits a new challenge, let's call this one the "BACK HOME CHALLENGE". A simple idea to stir the fires of creativity.

Not a fic but, Loren got some chuckles from it, and might actually be of some use to those detail obsessed trivialists. Check out, "ScapeSpeak Statistics" for the lowdown on all the dren.

February 4, 2002:

Thanks to aeryncrichton for providing some good reads for Ally. Shipscat's winning fic for the SACC Short Attention Span Fan Fic Contest has been posted on the BB. Congrats, Ms. Kitty. And for those asking, it's "Ships-cat", not the other way 'round. Ahem, anyway, if you haven't read the story, here tis:

SACC Award Winner: SHIFTING SANDS, by Shipscat

Challenge Fic: THE UNION, by SailorShipper - Short Skirt Challenge ( 2/3/02 )

Challenge Fic: DRESS UP, by Atana_Mirtai - Short Skirt/Bedroom Challenge ( pd 2/4/02 ) That sort sounds like Atana made up a twisted 'new' challenge. hehe

Challenge Fic: WHEN SPIRITS COLLIDE, Taralon_Phoenix - Bedroom Challenge ( pd 2/4/02 )

New at Leviathan: UNTIL NOW, by pkbabey - thought this would be a good response to the Bedroom Challenge ( pd 2/3/02 )

New at Leviathan: WHITE ELEPHANTS, by hossgal - answering cofax's Another Planet Challenge. Pure prose. Loved it. ( pd 2/3/02 )

New at Leviathan: KEEPER, by Nancy Brown - new plot, brilliant idea, poignant story. Answering Peripheral Character Challenge. Good stuff.

New at Leviathan: TORCH, by Andraste ( pd 2/3/02 ) - another peripheral character challenge answer. Lovely. Sensing all the prospective feedback, keeping the authors desire to remain unspoiled in mind, let me just give a friendly reminder: confirming or denying can be considered a spoiler. Please exercise care. Thanks.
Inside word from the author catches me up on a story I'd only scanned the first chapter of. Still Waters forges new territory with this sweet "Complete Denial" Fic :) - I'm up to Part 3 and it's definitely an engaging read. Thanks to Still Waters for the links.

That's all I have for tonight. FanFic Awards 2002 are now in the hands of LeatherGirl. Voting should be up and ready for posting on February 5th. Good Luck to all the fantastic authors!

February 2, 2002:

It's officially February! Whew.

More line problems yesterday. Man, will I be glad when the temp routinely says above 35, so.... Thanks to Loren for supplying the link and advisement to Crash's latest installment of the fabulous VOICES OF REASON. Gad! I owe Loren a HUGE email, but... gotta run! Maybe the frelling line will be up and being reasonable on Sunday. (keepin' me fingers crossed)

Continuing: VOICES OF REASON - Part 3, by KernilCrash ( pd 2/01/02 )
Loco and aeryncrichton got themselves worked up into a panic. Obviously still much scarred from DMD. So, in trying to calm down conceived a new challenge -- The J&A Bedroom Fic challenge.... Nope, they allege they are not looking for shipper porn (although Ally would not object), they just want to see them HAPPY to hold the panic at bay while waiting for the final four.... Take a look and see what you can do for 'em, eh?
New Challenge: J&A BEDROOM SCENE, from aeryncrichton and imloco2 ( pd 2/1/02 )
Cripes-- more challenges. I'm gonna get SO, ahem, behind! All you spoiler fearless people need to send Ally the damn links! hehe
New Challenge: THE SHIPSCAT & UCSBDAD FANFIC CHALLENGE, from Ms. Kitty & Dad ( pd 2/1/02 )
There's all the available time for now. Hang in there!
