Guest Stars Reappearing:

Tammy McIntosh Returning in the fourth season as Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hoovalis; the galaxies most persistent red-head. Jool first raised her curly red head in the S3 ep 'Self-Inflicted Wounds, Part 1: Could'a, Would'a, Should'a' and returned; again and again in 'Self-Inflicted Wounds: Part 2, Wait For The Wheel', '...Different Destinations', 'Eat Me', 'Thanks For Sharing', 'Losing Time', 'Incubator', 'Scratch 'N Sniff', 'Revenging Angel', 'Fractures', 'I-Yensch, You-Yensch', 'Into the Lion's Den, Parts 1 & 2: Lambs to the Slaughter and Wolf in Sheep's Clothing', and returned for Season 4 in "What Was Lost, Part 1: Sacrifice".

Raelee Hill Can a single show have too many redheads? Apparently not. Ms. Hill popped up as the gravity defying Sikozu Shanu, Jack of all Trades for Hire, in the fourth season premiere ep, "Crichton Kicks", and returned for "What Was Lost, Part 1: Sacrifice".

Rebecca Riggs Returning once again as the vaguely malevolent Mele-On Grayza; yet another non-Sebacean Peacekeeper, being all she can be. Previously appeared in Season 3 Episode, 'Into The Lion's Den, Part 1: Lambs to the Slaughter', and the Season 4 ep, "What was Lost, Part 1: Sacrifice".

David Franklin Back for the fourth season, with a uh, field promotion. Congrats. Previously appeared in the recurring role of Scorpy's obsequious toady; Lt. Braca. First popping up in the tag of the Season 1 ep: 'Bone To Be Wild', then returning for 'Family Ties'. Back for Season 2 in: 'Mind The Baby', 'Look At The Princess, Part 2: I Do, I Think', and the final four, 'Liars, Guns & Money, Parts 1, 2, & 3: A Not So Simple Plan, With Friends Like These, & Plan B', and 'Die Me Dichotomy'. In Season 3, Braca reappeared in 'Season of Death', 'Losing Time', 'Incubator', 'I-Yensch, You-Yensch', 'Into the Lion's Den, Part 1 and 2: Lambs to the Slaughter and Wolf in Sheep's Clothing'. Shifting to Commandant Grayza's obsequious toady in the Season 4 episode, "What was Lost, Part 1: Sacrifice".

ep discussion

On the planet Arnessk, at the site of another ancient temple, D'Argo and Sikozu hatch a plan to free Jool and Chiana, but for it to succeed, John must sacrifice hard won freedom and put himself back in the hands of the Peacekeepers.

Under the influence of Grayza's intoxicating biochemistry, John reveals a bit more about wormholes and the Sebacean/Interion/Human connection. No mention is made of the fourth side of the tile; and so we can't know which side Grayza was examining when she tells him, "our two species may be very closely linked," and somewhere in between Scorpius meets an untimely end.

Following a spectacular escape, the surviving Peacekeepers are sent on a wild goose chase, but time runs out and the crew find themselves still on planet with a malfunctioning vessel, deadly magnetics spiking, and a single option; reactivate the Darnaz Triangle and resurrect the seeds of peace.

New to 'scape

Aliens & Critters

  • The red robed Priests and their Lost Temple, back in the present.
  • Laka. Think we forgot to mention this first appearance in Part 1. Tiny critter with psychotropic guts.
  • Traskan - Braca gives the old woman a species designation.

Words

  • Frekka. A brand new expletive from Chi.
  • Skernac. Intro'd by Scorpy. Secret password known only by agents of Peacekeeper Special Directorate. I swear I heard Jena fans everywhere howling and jumping up and down! It would sort of follow if she showed at some point.
  • Grenosphere. Yet another layer of planetary atmosphere, sayeth Rygel.
  • Motra. A measure of distance just over half a metra, so sayeth Jool and John.
  • Valla or Vella?. Hard to tell if this isn't a new one from Chi, or just a reference to Vella.

Big Deals, Nicknames and Crichtonisms

  • Jool exits. Yep, 'she's still here', but is left behind on what is likely the most significant planet in the universe.
  • Heppel oil; a mind bending perfume produced by a gland normally found only in Dellos concubines.
  • Nortanti. And, whoo hoo, the old woman, wrinkles, old lady, etc., etc., etc., finally gets a name. Only took 4 eps.
  • Grayza becomes 'Mata Hari', John claims he's not 'Steve McQueen', and shortens his nick for Oo-nii to 'Black Lagoon'.
  • A DRD can survive independent of the Leviathan that created it. Being entirely mechanical, this is plausible but, will 1812 still be able to... perform?
  • More baseball metaphors than you can shake a stick at.
  • Plain tools of seduction: Beer, bowling, skinny-dippin', and some baseball, and more baseball -- should work... if you're in high school *g*.
  • Joseph Niekro. Pitcher for the Houston Astros; 1975 to 1985, winning 144 games for the club.
  • Gaylord Perry. Baseball hall of famer; pitching. Achieving fame in the late 60's and 70's. Hm. A pitchin' theme.
  • Oh, and I think that putting a little "monkey" on the ball refers to an illegal spitball in basebell. Niekro was infamous for it. [I like that one better, Judith, goes with the baseball theme-- 'putting junk on the ball' and so forth. Thanks!]
  • PULSE GUN CHARGE LIMITS. In an extreme act of specificitude, Justin lets us in on the fact that a fully charged chakkan oil cartridge only has 600 energy discharges. It's a 6-hundred shooter. And you can test an empty with your tongue. Damn it, Jim, it's a chakkan oil cartridge, not a flash bulb!
  • "Is that enough dirt out of your hole, Boss?" I believe that's from "Cool Hand Luke". In particularly childish punishments for small infractions, one of the guards points to a plot of ground and tells the prisoner that there's a hole there, but that the prisoner's dirt is in his hole. The prisoner's task is to remove the offending dirt from the "hole". The only small victory that the prisoners can take is to snark back with the ironic question. [From Judith]
  • And, John's little tête-à-tête with his pulse pistol in the passageway ... "You are the most powerful ..." is an echo of part of Dirty Harry's prelude to his famous "Make my day" instructions to the coffee shop thieves in the first Dirty Harry movie. As the thief contemplates his chances for escape, Eastwood growls: "I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk? Go ahead. Make my day." [From Judith. Thanks!]

Casualties and 'Frell! That's gonna leave a mark!':

  • Attempted drownings: two.
  • Tongue Lashings: one.
  • Non-consensual sex: uh, too many to count I'd guess.
  • Scorpy bites it, shot down like a... uh, dog. I'm gonna count this one-- for now.
  • Laka bites it for the greater good, death by squeezing.
  • Drugging by bug guts. One.
  • Bondage and spankings, oh my. Two of the former, one of the latter.
  • Aside from the attempted drownings, John takes a beating from Oo-nii on three separate occasions, and gets smacked 'out' of the ballpark. [ that's gonna leave a mark! ]
  • Oy! The old woman presses her luck, tossing Winona into the drink, John follows her. Another swan dive.
  • Chi finally gets one in, dissolving Oo-nii with a carver.
  • Elack and his Pilot take one for the team, providing the distraction needed for the others to escape.
  • PKSoldiers: Oo-nii drowns one, John takes three in the corridor firefight, indeterminate numbers also fried in the running firefight and squished by a Leviathan. Of the twenty available, it's likely the remaining survivors also departed with Grayza and Braca in the sole surviving Marauder, so... 10? Fifty-fifty split, with spares.
