COLD OPEN

THEATER OF THE MIND

Headlights of a heavy vehicle move to camera in the darkness. An explosion illuminates the rain damp asphalt under it, chain link fence in the BG.

Cut to interior of the vehicle, canvas covered cargo bed. John and Harvey sit side by side on the long narrow bench which flanks either side of the interior [or so I'm told]. John's pickin' his own clothes still, but Harvey must be pickin' the venue and his own outfits-- clad in typical GI Joe attire, circa WWI? Tan trenchcoat, bucket helmet, the straps hanging loose. Harvey starts badly at the explosion; John just sits, surly, chewing gum, barely acknowledging the blast.

HARVEY

Oh, turn back, John.

JOHN

Shut up, Private. We're goin' in.

John adjusts a long gun, from one hand to the other, some other bit of business with something tucked in his waistband under his jacket- the notebook?

HARVEY

If Scorpius discovers you intend to sabotage his wormhole research... he'll kill you John, and if you perish... so do I.

JOHN

Thought you wanted to die.

HARVEY

Not any more. I want to survive.

JOHN

Then follow orders.

Harvey starts at another explosion, deciding to 'suck it up'.

HARVEY

I'll do my best.

Cut to John's skeptical expression.

HARVEY [O.S.]

Trust me on that.

Cut to Harvey, clutching his rifle to his chest.

AERYN [V.O.]

Crichton...

Close on John, his black and white visage gaining color as the lights go up and...

TRANSPORT POD

Refocusing, John turns slightly toward her voice before turning back forward; shot pulls out. Crais stands behind and to his left.

AERYN

D'Argo and Rygel just reported in from the Command Carrier. Scorpius is sending marauders to escort us in.

Cont pulling wide, Chiana stands beside Crais, and Aeryn sits in the opposite Pilot's chair. Jool steps up behind John.

JOOL

Or blast us into particles.

CRAIS

Why is your hair red?

JOOL

Because I'm anxious, okay? I don't know why we're doing this. I don't know why I came along.
( to Chiana )
And I don't know why we didn't jump ship when you said we would.

CHIANA

Cause we'd be no where near a populated planet.

JOOL

You know what? We could've stayed on Moya.

JOHN

Aeryn. Turn the pod around. Let's take these two back.

AERYN

Moya is over four arns away.

CRAIS

And hiding with Talyn by now.

EXT. SPACE

Exterior space CGI, Moya and the still much smaller form of Talyn lurk above planetary orbit; a large smooth blue crescent filling most of the shot, a tiny moon peeking over it's horizon.

JOHN [V.O.]

Pilot? Are you parked?

PILOT [V.O.]

Yes.

INT. MOYA - PILOT'S DEN

PILOT

Moya has towed Talyn to the agreed upon rendezvous point.

Cut to long on Pilot's Den as his quiet sound of pain spills over comms.

TRANSPORT POD

Pilots distress seems to concern John.

Moya's own harmonic sounds also filter through.

AERYN

Pilot? What was that?

PILOT

Moya is under great stress.

CHIANA

She ought to see us.

PILOT

But she assures me, she will... endure.

JOOL

I hope we can say the same.

EXT. SPACE

EXTENDED CGI SEQUENCE

Four of the flat PK Marauder vessels intercept the Transport Pod, escorting it on all flanks as it approaches the hulking form of a Command Carrier, past off of its support vessels. In the far background, the crescent of a large blue planet fills most of the shot.

Cut to interior of the transport pod, everyone sits silently.

Cut to Exterior Space as the pod and escort vessels fly at speed into the gaping maw of the carriers docking area, jutting structures of what may be defensive weaponry decorate the edges of the entrance. The ships disappear inside.

Cut to interior of the transport pod. The lights of the carrier's interior illuminating everyone. John looks to Aeryn but her gaze is focused on the forward portal, and he turns back, expression hardening in familiar resolve.

Cut to hangar area, the nose of the Transport Pod enters at right, hovering over an outbuilding and a phlanx of PK's lined shoulder to shoulder on either side of a red carpet. Scorpius stands at it's head as the pod settles to the deck, landing struts deploying.

Cut to close on transport stairs, a black boots, pan up leather clad legs to John as he steps down to the Command Carrier [... one small step...], Aeryn just behind him, Crais behind her. His eyes remain ahead, looking down the red carpet.

Cut to Scorpius, standing at the opposite end, D'Argo standing to his right, Braca, with Plint behind him, stands to his left. The world and two ranks of rifle toting PK's between them.

Cut back to John, Aeryn and Crais. Chiana and Jool descending the stairs of the pod behind them.

Cut to close on Scorpius, spreading his arms wide, a magnanimous gesture; bowing his head, just slightly.

SCORPIUS

Welcome.

Cut back to John, grim faced and unmoving. After a light pause, and with the assistance of dramatically heavy handed music, he moves forward.

Cut to long and angle down as John walks the red carpet between the ranks of armed PK's toward Scorpius, Aeryn just behind his left shoulder. Cut to close on each of the group, John remains eyes forward, but the others survey the PK's surrounding them; Crais spies a familar face in a slender blond female with a rather severe haircut.

Cut to John, still walking slowly forward.

JOHN

Let's test the jewelry.

AERYN

All right.

Close on John's hand, held slightly behind his back. Still walking, she grabs hold of the thumb of his left hand, just below the bracelet and pulls upward, mercilessly.

John's knees buckle slightly and her grunts in obvious discomfort.

Cut to Scorpius, a hissing growl of pain, lifting his left hand slightly. The PK's around him tense, some stepping slightly out of rank to aim their pulse rifles toward the approaching group.

JOHN

Just checking.

AERYN

( aside to D'Argo )
Treating you all right?

D'ARGO

So far.

RYGEL

Food could be better.

SCORPIUS

John Crichton.

SCORPIUS

I grant you John, and your companions... full diplomatic rights, immunities... and courtesies whilst aboard this vessel.

SCORPIUS

At last. The rift between us is finally bridged.

END COLD OPEN

ACT ONE

COMMAND CARRIER - CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS

Shot is long and angle down on the main floor. Lovely PK carpeting [previously in eps such as TWWW] under a large oval command console; white and red lights a bright contrast to the dark surroundings. The door slides open with an electronic whine, and Crais enters; followed by John, they both step across the raised threshold of the door [submarine entrance], both displaying similar attitudes [I cannot believe I'm here/again]. Scorpius enters, followed by Braca. The three leading males circle the table, on opposite sides- John remaining closest to the door.

SCORPIUS

So tell me, John. What finally brought you here? He circles the table slowly, until he faces John from the opposite end.

SCORPIUS

Dominar Rygel claimed you preferred the Peacekeepers to the Scarrans.
( beat )
Any other reasons? Cut to MED long on John, standing a bit hipshot, thumbs looped through his belt. Black on Black. [could he be more gorgeous?]

JOHN

Moya. Pilot. Aeryn. D'Argo. They've been through hell... in large part due to me. It's time I did something for them. Do not... screw with them, Scorpius. Give them what they want. It's a good deal for you.

SCORPIUS

Oh. Uncontested.

[ This is turning into a 'Scorpy Expression', last said to Aeryn Sun about her superior abilities as a combat pilot ... just before he killed her ::DMD ]

CRAIS

There is one thing more we want. Talyn is presently inoperative. He needs to be brought aboard... for a full cognitive system replacement.

SCORPIUS

That was not part of the agreement.

JOHN

So? You called off the retrieval squad. Fixin' up Talyn is 'chump change'.

BRACA

Bringing a gunship aboard is too much to ask.

CRAIS

His weapons have been deactivated. Techs will remove them. He will be reprogrammed and set free.

JOHN

No guns; no Peacekeeper memories; no emotional problems.

BRACA

What incentive is there for us to work on Crais's-

Turning his attention briefly, John addresses obsequious toady.

JOHN

Braca, you wanna go another round with me? We can take this outside.

Effectively cutting off Braca's 'point', John turns his focus back to Scorpius.

JOHN

Talyn can go to hell. Crais can go to hell. This is for me, not him.

SCORPIUS

Granted.

CRAIS

Then show me to my quarters and get me the project schematics so I can isolate Talyn's design flaws. I'll need a Leviathan specialist. I request Lieutenant Larell.

SCORPIUS

For, ah... any particular reason?

CRAIS

Only that she's the best qualified.

A long pointed, piercing look at Crais and...

SCORPIUS

Hm.

Scorpy shoots Braca one of those patented 'make it so' nods. He moves to exit, Crais moving ahead of him. The door cycles, leaving John alone with Scorpius. He circles the table, standing a few steps away.

SCORPIUS

Your shipmates have been invited to refreshment in the ah... officers lounge. Shall we join them?

JOHN

No. Thank you. I came to work.

SCORPIUS

For, or against me?

COMMAND CARRIER - OFFICER'S LOUNGE

Full on bar/lounge, colors primarily red and black. Walls drenched in red, who could relax here? Room is packed with PK's of all uniformed varieties. Shot steady across the room, focus is a table with three PK's [Lt. Reljik, PK Karate Man and Burly PK Officer], one bitter angry voice predominates; that of a fairly ancient PK Officer, gray haired and battlescarred - Lt. Reljik.

RELJIK

Full immunity to escaped prisoners. It's frelling madness.

Shot pans to a wall with large frosted glass doors inserted. The doors open as Lt. Reljik continues bitching.

RELJIK

We shouldn't be welcoming these criminals. We should be executing them!

Close on Plint and Moya's crew. Plint holds the door solicitously as they enter, the animosity from the now silent PK's in the room washing over them. Chiana moves to the side, making room for Aeryn to precede them all. Aeryn's expression remarkably cool. She's the only one who 'knows' what to expect.

PLINT

( casually )
Make yourselves comfortable.

[ that guy makes me grin ]

Aeryn and Jool exchange a look, but no one moves. Stepping forward, Aeryn walks across the room, cool as you please. The silent PK's around her likely wishing they could, you know, kill her. Stepping up to a table, she reaches for a large jar, the PK male beside her muttering his hate before moving away.

ANONYMOUS PK OFFICER

( sotto voce )
Traitor.

Aeryn gives us a way cool, 'all right then' look. Good thing she's here as an 'ally', eh? She grabs a cup, and turns, heading toward her crewmates, now moving through the back of the room.

CORRIDOR

Braca 'escorts' Crais down a semi-dark corridor filled with black clad PKs. Muttered curses from the PKs they pass in the corridor.

BRACA

There's a lot of hostility among the crew. They feel you betrayed them by misusing your command.
( beat )
So do I.

WORMHOLE LAB

Co-Kura leads a guided tour as John enters the lab, Scorpius just slightly ahead of him. Shot is dominated by a large square red and white command console, slightly domed toward the center. Drifting above the table is a rectangular display screen [ presentation of the display screen looks CGI to me but I'm damned if I know how they did it ]

Co-KURA

I'm delighted to have you assisting us. We've prepared you a-a workstation. Tell me what you... require. I'll have someone obtain it for you.

They circle around the large and complex central command console in the lab and John looks down on his 'workstation', mild interest converting to mild annoyance.

He walks down a few steps to the lower level, briefly examining a small sort of antiquated looking console. Displays lit white, blue and green. He snags the small chrome stool beside the console and turns toward Co-Kura.

JOHN

Workstation.

Climbs the steps back to the main level.

JOHN

Seems limited.

Co-Kura waits expectantly, awaiting approval or something, but John hurls the stool across the room, smashes the terminal. Obviously dissatisfied.

JOHN

I don't assist.

he makes to leave.

SCORPIUS

John! The intention was--

JOHN

( cutting him off with vehemence )
Screw you and your intentions, Scorp. I do not eat at the kiddie table. Now, you either give me the big toys, or you send me home.

PRIVATE CREW QUARTERS

Doors cycle open on crew quarters, similar to that seen in Nerve and Hidden Memory; two small rooms separated by a short, partially padded tunnel. Crais enters shot, walking through the tunnel to the 'bedroom'. Braca follows, voice oily with smugness.

BRACA

Not as salubrious as your previous accommodations. Still, considering the fact you should be in our brig, I suppose you can't complain.

Crais searches the digs for prying eyes and ears.

BRACA

Don't bother searching for surveillance. You're not that important.

CRAIS

Lieutenant Braca. I predicted your rise in this organization. I stand by that prediction. You are a consummate... Peacekeeper.

Crais's insult does not go veiled or unnoted. Stung, Braca scowls and stalks from the quarters.

OFFICERS LOUNGE

Same crowd, not as silent as before, murmuring voices and some unpleasant laughter. Jool sits at a table with D'Argo.

JOOL

This is too weird, being here. How long were you a prisoner?

Cut to D'Argo, Aeryn 'relaxing' in a chair beside his.

D'ARGO

Eight cycles.

JOOL

And you were born here, grew up within these walls? It must have been awful.

Laughter from a nearby table draws Aeryn's attention. In a burst of white light the three PK's at the table 'become' Henta, Aeryn and an anonymous black haired PK male. They are playing some sort of a game and Henta has just won the 'round'. Much laughter ensues.

HENTA

Yeah!

AERYN

( mock groaning in defeat )
Oh!

HENTA

It's just chance.

AERYN

Well, I'll get it back.

They laugh some more, obviously having a good time together.

HENTA

Cheers...

They raise glasses in a toast.

Another flash cut and back to the present where Aeryn sits with the others of Moya's crew around her. She looks a bit... homesick.

AERYN

No. It wasn't awful.

Meanwhile; Chiana's on the prowl, her hand on Reljik's shoulder, fingers tracking lightly across his back as she circles his table. His face stiffens in anger.

CHIANA

Room for another?

She reaches for a vacant chair-- Reljik kicks it across the room. Cut to D'Argo, standing quickly - Aeryn standing beside him.

RELJIK

No.

CHIANA

But I have currency... and, ah...

She steps over to the chair, bending suggestively at the waist, some of her more charming assests on display.

CHIANA

other things...

She pulls the chair close again, another seductive smile just for Reljik. He's 'not' biting.

RELJIK

I don't see anything.

Cut to D'Argo, slowly crossing the room toward the brewing squall, a fierce scowl on his face. [ TFS Flashback: "Every frelling planet!" ]

CHIANA

No?

Bending down into his face.

CHIANA

Look closer.

Reljik stands, thoroughly annoyed and uncharmed by Chiana's charms. D'Argo reaches her side, speaking softly, a hand on her elbow.

D'ARGO

Chiana, I think we should be moving along.

She pulls away from him; her own anger showing.

CHIANA

We're just getting to know each other.

RELJIK

I know exactly what you are.

CHIANA

Oh?

RELJIK

A Nebari tralk.

CHIANA

( purring softly )
Oh?

RELJIK

And a Luxan who took a Sebecean wife and then murdered her.

D'Argo gets riled and is ready to rock 'n roll. Aeryn defuses the issue with D'Argo, quickly, right there by his side.

AERYN

( softly )
D'Argo, we didn't come here to fight.

D'ARGO

No. No, I wouldn't dream of it.

D'Argo and Reljik scowl mildly at each other- waiting for... something. Braca enters, [pretty sure that wasn't it] his tone vaguely chastening.

BRACA

Lieutenant Reljik.

RELJIK

We were just getting to know each other.

Reljik turns and stalks out of shot. Situation diffused, Braca moves away as well, and gets hailed by Rygel.

RYGEL

Ah, Braca. Crichton's now arrived, so keep your promises. You owe me a full intelligence report on the Hynerian political situation.

Braca hands over a data chip.

BRACA

Here it is.

RYGEL

Ah
( chuckles )

Braca turns to D'Argo, noting the Luxan's approach.

BRACA

Ah, and you can undergo your surgery anytime you choose.

D'ARGO

That wasn't the only thing I requested.

BRACA

We're working on the other thing.

Braca moves to depart, but D'Argo places a delaying hand firmly on his shoulder.

D'ARGO

Work faster.

D'Argo drops his hand and Braca exits.

A young woman [Henta] moves through the crowd in the lounge, a look of amazed surprise converting to a happy smile. [well, it's a PK smile, but a smile nonetheless.]

HENTA

For the love of cholak. I heard you were here, but I didn't believe it.

Aeryn turns at the voice, smiling warming [PK smile], she offers a cup to Henta.

AERYN

Will you have a drink with me?

The girl takes the cup, still friendly, relaxed; but as her fingers close on the up she notes the conspicuous silence all around them.

HENTA

Thank you... but I only drink with Peacekeepers.

She dashes the contents of the cup in Aeryn's face, her voice surly and bitter. She puts the cup down. Snarky tittering from the PKs as Henta stalks out.

WORMHOLE LABORATORY

John is seated at the large command console, leaned back in the chair, his arm resting across it's surface, hand upraised, knuckles stroking his temple-- practicing invisibility while Scorpius looms behind him.

Co-KURA

And this colonates the organic residue analyzer which, ah--

JOHN

--is tryin' to figure out why your wormhhole pilots are turnin' to goo.

Co-KURA

You know of the tissue liquification effect?

JOHN

Yeah. It happened to Linfer when she tried to defect to Moya.

SCORPIUS

What did Linfer tell you?

JOHN

Not a lot. She died.
( beat )
Tell you what, why don't you pull up her phase progression equations. Let's see how they compare to the stuff your... chip pulled out of my brain.

Everyone hesitates to provide him with what must be classified information.

JOHN

Fellas... open the bag or call me a cab, I cannot work blind.

Scorpy nods to Co-Kura who turns to a control console. The spiraling structure of the encoded wormhole data swirls on the display screen. The shot cutting to close on John as he rotates his chair, turning toward the display, leaning an elbow on the table for a closer look. The shot remains close on him 'through' the translucent screen as he leans in. The red and white lights of the table he leans on casts a reddish hue on his face.

MEDICAL SECTION - LATER

Close on D'Argo, reclining in a chair, a large two-handled device attached to one of the rings at his left collarbone. He does not look happy.

MEDICAL TECH

How's the pain?

Cut to Med on the group surrounding the table, the tech holding something that looks like a huge set of bolt cutters against D'Argo's collar bone. Jool and Aeryn stand on the other side of the chair. John, entering, climbs a short flight of stairs to join the group. Except for the Tech, they all wear a set of silky gray clothing, sort of Karate Gi with obi belt of same color.

MEDICAL TECH

I can increase the anaesthetic mist.

JOHN

You doin' all right, big guy?

D'ARGO

Well enough. Only it's taking slightly longer than I expected.

D'Argo's tone does nothing to conceal the thought that, perhaps, the Tech is making the process last longer that it ought.

MEDICAL TECH

My apologies.

He removes the bolt cutters, D'Argo sighing in undisguised relief. The tech discards the bolt cutters in favor of a smaller medical implement; large tweezers.

MEDICAL TECH

These rings weren't designed to be removed. The bone will knit shortly, however...

The tech removes the metal ring from D'Argo's collarbone, examining it and the area of removal closely.

MEDICAL TECH

...and the blood is running clear. You're safe from infection in here.

Unspoken signals between them, and John and Aeryn descend to the lower area for a private conversation. The tech hands D'Argo the ring.

[I love the economy of set use here. Considering that almost 'all' the sets are new for just these two episodes; the 'dentist chair' D'Argo is sprawled in is at the top of a flight of stairs; seen much later in the climax of Part 2-- conspicuously absent of dentists chairs. Down the flight of stairs and across a short span of large white grouted black tiles is a brace of black framed doors with frosted glass inserts decorated with a stylized version of the red and white PK symbol; vertical presentation-points down. Above the door, a much larger version of the red and white PK symbol horizonal presentation. To the left, below the stairs, is a three tiered construct of the same large black tiles; square, each tier diminishing in size; a continous stream of thick white mist pours from the top of the smallest tier mounted at the top. Presently three gray clad PKs sit there; two at the lowest tier and one above and between them. It's the basic black/red/gray design. Use of white is 'very' limited, and so, startling in constrast.]

MEDICAL TECH

Relax there for a few arns. The griltto mist will help you heal.

Maybe this is the gross out moment of the week: The tech hands the second ring to D'Argo; cut to close on the rings as D'Argo turns them in his hand- they look sorta like shower curtain rings- except black; but the cut ends each have a tiny flake of whitish substance adhering to them-- bone?

Cut to John and Aeryn, taking a seat at the three tiered structure, PKs moving away in the BG.

AERYN

Apparently it's safe to talk in here. Crais says that the mist interferes with their surveillance equipment.

JOHN

Well, he should know. It was his boat.

He spares a quick, direct glance in her direction. Otherwise they sit angled, shoulder to shoulder; neither ever actually looking 'at' the other.

JOHN

How you holdin' up?

AERYN

Well, I wish I was elsewhere.

JOHN

Yeah.

AERYN

Have you decided on a plan?

JOHN

Plan A... was to wipe all their data, send them back to square one. That would work if I could find the erase button.

AERYN

Um hmm.

JOHN

Plan B... steer 'em in the wrong direction, 'cept I don't know which way that is.

AERYN

Mm.

JOHN

I'm startin' to look at Plan C.

AERYN

Which is?

JOHN

Forget the whole thing and run like hell before they kill us.

AERYN

Are you serious about that one?

JOHN

No... just tell the others not to get comfortable.

AERYN

Trust me, they won't.

OFFICERS LOUNGE

Must be late, or late in shift, the only occupants of the room are three PKs sitting around a table. Lt. Reljik, a burly PK Officer [Australian wrestler, Mark Mercedes], and another anonymous PK [later revealed as 'Karate Man'].

PK KARATE MAN

Well, that's it for me.

Karate Man exits, leaving Reljik and Burly PK to stew in their juices-both a bit 'tight'.

RELJIK

How the frell can Scorpius allow that Luxan on board? Can't stand Luxans. Never could.

BURLY PK OFFICER

Me neither.

RELJIK

Looking down his ugly nose at us. Like to wipe that sneer off his face.

BURLY PK OFFICER

So would I.

RELJIK

You know what might give him a good scare? Have you still got that thing they... built for you for the battle of Stalaro?

MEDICAL SECTION

D'Argo and Jool relax on the lowest tier of the 'sauna'.

JOOL

I don't like it. I don't trust Scorpius. Are we gonna die here?

D'ARGO

What do you mean? In this room, or in a Command Carrier?

BURLY PK OFFICER [O.S.]

Luxan!

Cut to Burly PK officer, decending the stairs. He's tricked out; ridiculously enough, in the latest in bandsaw technology, the black harness holding a bulky housing to his arm reveals 'way' too much flesh for my taste. Well, in this case.

D'ARGO

Peacekeeper.

D'Argo remains reclined on the tier, can't be bothered with this right now.

BURLY PK OFFICER

Get up.

D'ARGO

Oh, frell.

BPK reaches for D'Argo's shirt to pull him to his feet. Standing, D'Argo shoves him back a ways; attempting a quick disposition, his tongue lashes out but BPK dodges to the side.

[Surprisingly, nobody says, "Let's dance," but D'Argo and the PK Officer go at it anyway. Intricately choreographed so Anth doesn't get 'sawed' accidentally. Good plan.]

The weight of the damn thing overbalances BPK guy every time he swings it, taking wild swipes at the stairs and the sauna tiers while D'Argo dodges; Jool cowers in the BG before getting worried enough about how D'Argo is doing to get her licks in; tiny fists pounding against BPK gut, distracting him to the point that he has to hurl her against the wall, instead of bisect the fallen Luxan; taking a swipe at her with the bandsaw while D'Argo picks himself up off the ground.

D'Argo rushes BPK guy as Jool scrambles to relative safety, pinning the whirling bandsaw arm against the wall while he smashes his fist into BPK guy's face a few times. They wrestle with the bandsaw for a bit and D'Argo kicks BPK guy in the gut, driving him back to the edge of the upper level with a two handed slug to the jaw that looks like a frellin' homer to me- great style. BPK guy recovers and raises the bandsaw 'o doom over his head, overbalancing on the edge of the platform. Jool and D'Argo react in typical 'good guy' style.

JOOL

D'Argo!

D'ARGO

No!

D'Argo reaches for BPK as he teeters on the edge, clasping arms with the guy-- typical bad guy fashion, BPK guy takes a last swipe at big D, who has to dodge or be fileted, and BPK guy teeters one last time and falls the short distance to the lower floor - thud - landing uh, uncomfortably, on top of the rotating saw; his body juddering before the thing shorts out, cue sparks and smoke and blood pooling.

Cut to D'Argo's 'that's gonna leave a mark' grimace. D'Argo: 1, PKs: 0.

RELJIK [O.S.]

Don't move.

Lt. Reljik and a small squad of PK officers survey the damage to their comrade. He looks to D'Argo with a smirk.

RELJIK

Oh, dear.

END OF ACT ONE

ACT TWO

Dressing down, Scorpy style.

SCORPIUS

Reljik, if anyone, and I mean anyone, touches our guests... there will be two executions-- The offenders and yours.

Reljik gives him a surly sidelong glance.

SCORPIUS

Dismissed!

Reljik exits, surprisingly unchastened, passing John and Aeryn standing side-by-side at the bottom of the steps to the upper level.

JOHN

Can anybody think of a reason why we shouldn't head straight back for Moya?

Long on the room, Scorpius and Braca at the upper level, D'Argo and Jool standing nearby.

JOOL

No.

She decends the stairs to stand beside Aeryn. Girl looks wicked- hair blinding red, expression surly.

AERYN

We were assured safe passage.

SCORPIUS

But, John, Ka D'Argo, I do apologize. But, this will not happen again.

D'ARGO

That's right. Because I'm taking Jool, Chiana and Rygel back to Moya.

SCORPIUS

Unnecessary!

JOHN

The fewer of us onboard, the less likely one of your people is to get hurt.

BRACA

Yes, and the less incentive for you to keep your promises.

SCORPIUS

Those who wish to return, may. But...

D'ARGO

Speaking of promises...

SCORPIUS

Braca. Give him the file on Macton.

Braca hands D'Argo a chip.

BRACA

Latest activites... current location.

A long look toward Scorpius.

D'ARGO

Thank you.

CREW QUARTERS

Crais sits on the bunk examining schematics in his hands and spread across the bunk. The sound of the door cycling and Crais stands, walking forward, doing that Star Trek 'jerk the tunic down' move. Cut to doors as they cycle closed. A slender blonde PK, enters, her hair cut severely short [Lieutenant Larell- previously seen eyeing Crais in the cold open]

CRAIS

Lieutenant.

She stands, severely at attention, eyes forward, not looking at him.

LARELL

Captain.

CRAIS

No longer. What were you told?

LARELL

Only to assist you as required.

CRAIS

And are you displeased with this assignment?

LARELL

Why would I be?

CRAIS

Working with someone who has... lost his command.

She turns her eyes on him, they widen with rabid sincerity.

LARELL

Scorpius stole your command! I knew he squeezed you out of power.

CRAIS

What else do you know?

LARELL

That even though you left without a word... I never changed my feelings for you.

Pounce. She grabs his face with both hands, kisses him senseless, and he reciprocates for a long while, abruptly pushing her away, holding her at arms length.

LARELL

Scorpius. He knows about our past. He put me in the Aurora chair-- found out everything. He said if I didn't spy on you, he'd destroy me.

CRAIS

Why are you telling me this?

LARELL

For the last two cycles, I hated you. It was the only way I could get through it.

CRAIS

It's as I expected. Everyone who knew me... would be coerced into spying.

LARELL

I don't hate you.

CRAIS

I don't hate you either.

Mutual pounce. Crais is gonna finally get him some. [Ain't it grand? A lack of mutual hate. The most a PK can aspire to? hehe-- sorry-- I love this]

WORMHOLE LABORATORY

More blue light pouring over John's face as he examines the display screen; a curving blue grid overlies a swirling mass of blue; grid looks like the 'before' pic of wormhole CGI graphics.

JOHN

These are design specs, right?

Co-KURA

It's our latest approach... to create an external field that stabilizes a wormhole before entry.

And this is absolutely bitchin- close on John, one half of his face cast in blue from the display, the other half cast in red from the lights of the table. How the frell? Oh, and this is a good time to say again: simply gorgeous.

JOHN

You're using this entire ship's hull as a wave repeater.

He looks away- worried.

Co-KURA

Yes, the-the ship's mass itself acts as a multiplier.

It doesn't seem as if John required Strappa's assurance on his observations. Mostly ignoring the little guy he sits and begins tapping away at the computer terminal.

Co-KURA

If we knew the sub-harmonic formulas, we could find the right resonance pattern.

Co-Kura's taking 'obsequious toady' lessons from Braca; practically genuflecting, a big grin toothy grin pasted on his face as Scorpius enters; climbing the stairs behind John.

SCORPIUS

No progress?

Co-KURA

Uh, not as yet, so far we haven't been able to... to postulate any further equations, no.

John's deeply in thought or deeply pissed, hand drifting aimlessly around his head, settling on tenting over his eyes.

SCORPIUS

Why not?

He shoves away from the table, the casters of the chair making a very earthlike noise.

JOHN

Because... we keep being interrupted.

SCORPIUS

I'm sorry, John. But we must move faster. The equations we need are in here.

Bad move, Scorpy walks closer; resting his gloved hand possessively on John's head; John jumps to his feet, batting Scorpy's arm away.

JOHN

( quiet anger )
Don't touch me.
( beat )
Locked away. I can't get at 'em.

SCORPIUS

Well, perhaps you're holding back.

nose to nose, a roll of thunder beneath their rising voices.

JOHN

( voice rising over Scorpius )
Grasshopper, you tried to snatch the feather from my head--!

SCORPIUS

( shouting over John )
You should let-- let me finish!

Abrupt silence.

SCORPIUS

You may well be making every conscious effort, but sub-consciously... you may still believe... that I will misuse the wormhole technology.

JOHN

You say you're only after Scarrans, I'm cool with that. Long as it's true.

SCORPIUS

It is.

Raising his hand, he shows John something tucked in his palm.

SCORPIUS

Maybe I can prove it to you.

JOHN

What's that?

SCORPIUS

Excerpts from my file. Documenting my life before I joined the Peacekeepers.

He places the chip on the command console.

JOHN

Uh huh, what's that gonna tell me?

SCORPIUS

Why I despise Scarrans.

Flash cut to ...

THEATER OF THE MIND

John stands beside the parked military vehicle, crates stacked all around. Crading a metal cup in his hands, he raises it to his lips. Appropriately dramatic music and distant heavy artillery fire dominate the scene. Crouched beside the reach wheel of the vehicle, Harvey has his say.

HARVEY

Scorpius's data chip made for interesting viewing, don't you think, John?

JOHN

The Scarrans. Are they really the threat he claims? Or is he just out for revenge? What do you think?

[I think he's changing the tire]

HARVEY

( standing )
I share his intellect, but not his passions nor his fears. Yes. My assessment would be more objective than his. And I concur with him. The Scarrans... pose a threat to all our species.

Cut to long as both react to a nearby explosion behind them. Slung across his back, John has one of the patented long guns.

John takes a seat on the two stacked crates; now devoid of games. And Harvey takes the moment to pat him vigorously on the shoulder.

HARVEY

Cheer up, John. Scorpius has shown his biography to very few. He must be trusting you now.

JOHN

Yeah... yeah, that's interesting, considering I've been lying to his face.

HARVEY

Uh... I've managed to, uh... normalize your energy signature. Scorpius can't detect you're lying.
( beat )
We may yet survive this, John.
( beat )
Hoo-yaw!

COMMAND CARRIER HANGAR BAY

LARELL

Oh... it's magnificent.

CRAIS

Braca, stand down. He's harmless. His weapons have been deactivated.

BRACA

And I'm to take your word for it?

LARELL

Take my word, Lieutenant. That ship's biologics are on minimal auto-support. All its other systems are dead.

CRAIS

Care to board Talyn and see for yourself?

BRACA

And he believed your confession?

LARELL

Yes.
( beat )
He trusts me completely.

PA SPEAKER

Group Leader Devlin, trials commence in ten microts. Reform and execute
( voice fades )

JOHN

This is nice.

AERYN

It's planetary terrain reconstruction for combat training. There's about forty on the ship.

JOHN

Look, Scorpy thinks that... Scarrans are... public enemy number one. They want to wipe out all the lesser species. Is that true?

AERYN

It's what we were taught.

JOHN

Great. And what if the Peacekeepers... never develop wormhole tech? What if that's the only way to keep the... Scarrans at bay?

AERYN

Well, they'll have to find another way to repel the Scarrans. But that's not your problem. You should be focusing on what you came here to do.

JOHN

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. It's just... it's just goin' so damn slow.
( beat )
The stuff in my head. Long pause, Aeryn still spends more time 'surveying the landscape' than looking at John.

JOHN

You know what? I could be here for a while.
( beat )
Maybe it's best if you don't stay.

EXT. SPACE - MOYA

COMMAND

Rygel, Jool and Chiana sit around the strategy table; D'Argo standing in the BG. A holo display plays over the table; planets and stars, while the voice of the 'narrator' fills the command.

VOICE

...and calls for Dominar Bishan's abdication have spread to four of the primary home worlds.

The holo winks out while Rygel jubilantly celebrates.

RYGEL

By the Hynerian gods! Orrhn wasn't lying. Bishan's in disfavor!
( laughs )
If I returned, I could muster up an army, incite an uprising and restore myself to power!

Cue 'Chiana Vision'

RYGEL

I can see it now. The [unintelligible] of my supporters... 'Rygel! Rygel!'
( laughs )

CHIANA

Pilot, Pilot, what's wrong?

PILOT

With what? All systems report normal function.

CHIANA

No-no-no. You were screaming. I-I had a vision, y-you were screaming.

PILOT

But there's nothing wrong.

Pilot looks down at a rapid bleeping from the console.

PILOT

Ships approaching! Peacekeeper ships.

D'ARGO

A marauder and two prowlers. Approaching fast.

JOOL

Another retrieval squad?

CHIANA

Frelling Scorpius.

D'ARGO

Starburst now, Pilot.

PILOT

Yes. Prepare for immediate starburst.

Ext. space and gorgeous CGI of Moya initiating Starburst [from GEM], just as the energy wave reaches her nose, a pulse of red energy strikes her side. Cut to interior as Pilot screams in pain.

COMMAND CARRIER HANGAR BAY

TALYN - THE BRIDGE

Crais and Larell work in the semi-darkness of the Bridge.

LARELL

Oh. This ship is amazing.

CRAIS

Hm.

LARELL

I understand why you took control of him.

CRAIS

Hm.

LARELL

The... the neural interface. What was it like?

CRAIS

A thousand different sensations all at once.

LARELL

Yet you're willing to give him up?

CRAIS

No choice. Ultimately, Talyn would not be commanded.

LARELL

Ultimately, neither would you.

CRAIS

My inability to take orders is why I am no longer a captain.

LARELL

Do you regret leaving the Peacekeepers?

CRAIS

Sometimes. What I regret most of is that I didn't... try to take you with me.

LARELL

I wouldn't have gone.
( beat )
Not then.

COMMAND CARRIER HANGAR BAY

HENTA

What do you want?

AERYN

I want to talk to you.

HENTA

Do you have something to say?

AERYN

Where should I start?

HENTA

What happened?

AERYN

Am I a traitor? Well, that depends upon your definition.

HENTA

Define it how you like. You're the one who left.

AERYN

Well, no I didn't have a choice in that. Crais decided I was irreversibly contaminated and he threw me out.

HENTA

And then he turned renegade and he got thrown out. You could have come back.

AERYN

It was too late then.

HENTA

You think you didn't have a choice?

AERYN

I didn't want to come back.

HENTA

Then you are a traitor.

AERYN

A deserter, perhaps.

HENTA

Can you tell me why?

AERYN

If you really want to know...

But she's cut off by an announcement.

PA SPEAKER

Alert! All cannon crew and prowler pilots report to stations. A captured leviathan is being escorted to docking area.

She bolts.

WORMHOLE LABORATORY

Co-KURA

Linfer suggested this formula. I disagreed.

JOHN

You two argue alot?

Co-KURA

She was a great mind and a... a tragic loss.

JOHN

Yeah, I really didn't get a chance to know her, but I liked her. You... obviously liked her. That's good.

His attention refocuses on the display screen, and he gestures toward it.

JOHN

This is wrong.

Co-KURA

Do you see a flaw in her extrapolation?

JOHN

Just a hunch.

Standing, he takes a pen from a tech standing behind Co-Kura.

JOHN

Excuse me.

Stepping back to the display, he marks a few symbols on the curve of his left hand between thumb and forefinger; tilting his hand and body so Co-Kura can examine the equations as he writes them.

JOHN

That's not right. But. There it is... another way to go.

Sounds of footsteps entering, John looks up, shadow of annoyance on his face.

AERYN

[O.S.] Crichton.

He turns and, cut to Aeryn standing in the doorway behind Co-Kura.

AERYN

They've captured Moya.

JOHN

( softly )
Scorpius.

He bolts.

COMMAND CARRIER - HANGAR BAY

RELJIK

What is this? Scorpius gave orders that this--

GRAYZA

I gave orders.

GRAYZA

Lieutenant Reljik, isn't it?

RELJIK

I am honored you remember, Ma'am.

GRAYZA

Thrice decorated by High Command, if I recall correctly.

RELJIK

You do, Ma'am.

GRAYZA

Would you be so good as to watch over these prisoners for me?

RELJIK

Ma'am.

COMMAND CARRIER - CORRIDOR

Aeryn and John run to camera, their progress stalled by two PKs, standing guard and the near end. They slow to a stop- John's not prepared to put up with any delay.

JOHN

Move.

PLINT

A security lockdown is in effect, priority Velkar Nine. No one is permitted-

John and Aeryn exchange a look and then take out the two guards, two blows each.

COMMAND CARRIER - CAPTAINS QUARTERS

SCORPIUS

What have you done? This Gammak project... is under my authority.

GRAYZA

Your authority is not absolute... Scorpius. Let me introduce K'or Tosko, Special Luxan Ambassador.

TOSKO

The Luxans have signed a defense agreement... with the Peacekeepers. I have been sent to promote other such alliances. But half the planets I visit, fear Peacekeepers.

GRAYZA

The other half laugh at us... for our simple inability to capture a handful of escaped prisoners whose exploits are becoming legendary.

SCORPIUS

Why should we care what insignificant systems think?

GRAYZA

We're uniting as much of the Uncharted Territories as possible. To improve our bargaining position with the Scarrans.

SCORPIUS

The Council intends to negotiate?

[Hey, will Scorpy remain an ally while the enemy of his enemy is not longer his enemy's enemy? *pant pant*]

GRAYZA

A truce is being explored.

SCORPIUS

A truce won't prevent an invasion. As a show of weakness, it may even hasten one.

TOSKO

Hence the alliances. To show strength.

SCORPIUS

Showing strength is useless! My project will give us strength!

COMMAND CARRIER - CORRIDOR

John and Aeryn run to camera; each with a 'borrowed' weapon, they turn a corner on the 'near' end, and cut to Braca, just beyond the intersection and behind the running pair- pulse pistol aimed and ready.

BRACA

Crichton, stop!

Cut to Aeryn and John, their two out vote Braca's one [ who can't shoot Crichton anyway ], and John 'removes' the pistol from his hands.

AERYN

Where is Scorpius?

BRACA

He didn't capture Moya.

JOHN

Like hell he didn't. Moya turned herself in?

BRACA

It wasn't Scorpius. Let him explain. Let me take you to him.

JOHN

What a good idea.

John grabs him and hauls him out of shot.

COMMAND CARRIER - CAPTAINS QUARTERS

GRAYZA

Even if these chimerical wormholes of yours had some military value... now is not the time to provoke the Scarrans. The very existence of this project imperils a truce.

SCORPIUS

The very idea of a truce... imperils every Sebacean. I know Scarrans. I understand them more than you ever will. Appeasement?
( beat )
Suicide.

This little dance is interrupted by the sudden opening of the doors to Scorpius's quarters. Braca stumbles inside, John just behind, Aeryn covering his back.

JOHN

[O.S.] In you go.

John enters, entirely pissed, calling hell down on Scorpy's head. Cut to close on Scorpius, taking a long-suffering seat on the edge of his desk.

JOHN

Hey, Hopper! Let 'em go...

Sound of a pulse rifle charging and cut to close on John, showing his willingness to make good.

JOHN

Or I will... kill you, bracelet or no bracelet.

SCORPIUS

Calm down, John, calm down! Moya and your friends are unharmed.

AERYN

Well, we'd like to see them.

GRAYZA

You can't. I've taken them into custody.

John keeps the pulse rifle on Scorpius, but quickly unholsters Braca's pulse pistol, taking aim at the new voice.

JOHN

Have we met?

GRAYZA

Commandant Mele-on Grayza. And you must be... the infamous John Crichton.

JOHN

( deadpan )
Infamous?
( beat )
Two points... Commandant. One: your boy here has made a lot of promises which you should keep because, two: when my friends are threatened, I am infamous... for making really stupid moves.
( to Aeryn )
Yes?

AERYN

Um hm.

GRAYZA

Point two is clearly correct, but I cannot accept point one.
( to Scorpius )
You've completely lost control.

SCORPIUS

Not yet.

Scorpius crosses back to his desk, engaging shipwide; John spares him a short glance- all his attention is focused on the newcomer, and has been since she first spoke.

SCORPIUS

This is Scorpius.

COMMAND CARRIER - HANGAR BAY

SCORPIUS

( over loudspeaker )
Moya and her crew are to be released at once.

Standing beside the holding cage where D'Argo, Jool, Chiana and Rygel are being detained, Lt. Reljik shakes his head.

COMMAND CARRIER - CAPTAINS QUARTERS

SCORPIUS

Braca. Have a security team report to my quarters. They will accommodate Commandore Grayza and her retinue to their vessel. A prowler detail... will escort them out of this sector.

BRACA

Sir.

GRAYZA

All right, Scorpius. we'll do this the hard way. I'll return with a full Council sanction. You shouldn't have made me into an enemy.
( to John )
And you shouldn't have pointed a weapon at me.

Exit hardass PK bitch.

JOHN

Damn, I gotta stop pointin' guns at people. Scorpius.

He climbs the steps to Scorpius's desk, handing him the pulse rifle and laying the pistol on the desk.

JOHN

I need a comms channel.

COMMAND CARRIER - HANGAR BAY

Commandant Grayza, the Luxan Ambassador and Lt. Braca enter. Grayza quickly approaches Lt. Reljik.

GRAYZA

You heard Scorpius. Release the prisoners.

RELJIK

Ma'am, are you sure?

GRAYZA

Do... as you are ordered... Lieutenant.

JOOL

Don't... touch me.

COMMAND CARRIER - CAPTAINS QUARTERS

PILOT

Crichton. We were attacked. Immobilizer... pulse.

JOHN

I know, Pilot. It's... it's all right.

PILOT

Moya won't accept a control collar. Rather be dead.

JOHN

There's not going to be... a control collar.
( to Scorpius )
Tell him.

SCORPIUS

Crichton is correct. Your capture was an error. This situation will not occur again.

JOHN

He means it, Pilot, and tell Moya I'm gonna hold him to it.

PILOT

Thank you, Commander.

SCORPIUS

GRAYZA

Lieutenant, I intend to remove Scorpius from command.

RELJIK

I'm sure most of us here would fully approve of that action.

GRAYZA

But going through channels takes time, and given the crew's low opinion of Scorpius... I'm concerned for his safety.

RELJIK

He is well protected... but because of the I-Yensch bracelet, he is vulnerable through... John Crichton.

GRAYZA

Then I am equally concerned for Crichton's safety.

RELJIK

I will do my best to address your concerns, Ma'am.

GRAYZA

Thank you, Lieutenant.

ACT FOUR

COMMAND CARRIER - OFFICERS LOUNGE

Close on three shot, Pilot and Jool face each other across a games table, playing some sort of a... game. Rygel hovers between them, playin' the shark.

RYGEL

Ah, a simple game. Not very diverting, unless it's played for currency.

JOOL

Oh, I don't want to be diverted. I just want Crichton to finish his work so we can go.

Shot rotates around the table, in the BG between Rygel and Jool we see Aeyrn and Henta sitting at another table near the doors.

RYGEL

Oh, we'll go, whether he's finished or not. But we may as well take some Peacekeeper winnings with us.

Jool and Rygel chuckel.

PLINT

Play.

Cut to close on Aeryn and Henta.

HENTA

Then you've rejected our ideals?

AERYN

No, not all of them. I've actually kept loyalty, sacrifice, honor. Not all Peacekeepers believe in those ideals you know.

HENTA

I still do.

AERYN

( smiling )
Yes, I'm sure you do.

Cut briefly to Jool, Rygel and Plint as Plint sweeps up a nice stack of winnings. Jool shoots Rygel a worried look. Cut back to close on Aeryn and Henta.

AERYN

Aren't you ever worried that you might be fighting for the wrong cause?

HENTA

No. Never.

Aeryn nods, pausing just a bit. Her gaze lifting and directing Henta's gaze across the room with that slight motion.

AERYN

What about the wrong leaders?

Cut to Scorpius, standing with D'Argo across the room, deep in conversation.

SCORPIUS

He is here under the Peacekeeper-Luxan pact.

D'ARGO

I cannot believe that the Luxans made a pact with the Peacekeepers.

SCORPIUS

They're merely pledged to fight any Scarrans attack. They remain autonomous.

D'ARGO

Yes but... for how long?

MEDICAL SECTION

JOHN

The knowledge the Ancients put in my head is startin' to do its job. I can see which paths will work and which ones a dead end.

AERYN

So you will be able to steer Scorpius onto the wrong path?

JOHN

Yeah, I can screw up his research for years to come.

AERYN

Why aren't you happy about that?

JOHN

'Cause I'm not a hundred percent sure it's the right thing to do.

AERYN

The other John gave up his life to stop the Scarrans from getting this information.

JOHN

I know, but... it's my shift now. He didn't know what we know. He didn't get Scorpy's backstory. He didn't see Scorpy put his ass on the line for us.

AERYN

So, what... now you're actually considering helping Scorpius?

JOHN

No. It's just not clear what my next move is.

AERYN

Well then you get clear. I said I'd back you up, and I will. But you have to make a decision.

TALYN - THE BRIDGE

LARELL

Bialar. I know you may not believe me, but... you could come back.

CRAIS

( laughs )
To the Peacekeepers? Scorpius despises me as much as I despise him.

LARELL

What?

AERYN

I think we're being followed. Through there.

COMMAND CARRIER - GENERATOR ROOM

AERYN

AERYN

It's a generator. It's unlikely we'll be followed through here.

JOHN

Yeah. It's a good place for an ambush.

PK KARATE MAN [O.S.]

Got 'em, Sir. Junction three, lurg eight.

AERYN

Well, our odds aren't going to get any better.

Just in case there's anymore assassination attempts.

JOHN

Hey, how'd it... feel at your end?

SCORPIUS

Like time is running out. Commandant Grayza... will return very soon.

JOHN

Work it out, Scorp. Get your ship under control. They were after me to get at you.

SCORPIUS

Realize that the situation has now changed! Our fates are now well and truly linked.

JOHN

We have been over this. I am still trying to assimilate all the data your people collected.

SCORPIUS

Grayza's arrival... drastically changes our timetable.

JOHN

It is Einstein's timetable. God, it's God's timetable, Scorp. Fix your end. I'm doin my bit.

SCORPIUS

Are you?

JOHN

Why are you bitchin' at me like we're married, Scorpy-Sue? Just tell me what's on your mind.

SCORPIUS

I suspect you're stalling... either through ignorance, or by design. I hoped you'd see reason.

JOHN

What do you think... I see? Huh? I'm here. On a big, stinkin' Command Carrier. Dick Tracy's freakin' neural bracelet linkin' me to Bram Stoker's nightmare. What more... do you want... from me?

[ okay this made me giggle; last said to Aeryn in GEM. ]

SCORPIUS

Cooperation...

JOHN

You stole that... from my memory.

SCORPIUS

You will kill both of us.
