this is not deliberate
Just messing around, and it's starting to look a little like Christmas *gak*
Thanks to Adelma who helped me locate The Void again. Links summarily updated. Oh, and may I say, "Oh! Bitchin'!" on the update, we played with it for quite a while. *bg*
The more I look around, the more suspected new authors I find. Following ck's recc for Famished, by Thea, also found Sea Change by the same author, posted on November 7, 2003, and only read 399 times since then. Then of course, followed all the way back to April 2003, so many wonderful words and so little time. Then made the mistake of following comments to other stories including Feldman's Sugar and Spice, and MAN, I gotta quit. This stuff is addictive!
We've had way too much time on our hands this weekend, and read and surfed practically non-stop, and I still have homework to do. Gotta tell ya, recc's pages are almost as fun to read as the reccs themselves, here's one I tittered over for an hour or so this morning: But George. This is a multi-fandom reccs page and I didn't find anything 'scape so if you're 'scape only addicted (unlike the BBQ) this one may not be your cuppa. It's way the BBQ's cuppa, so It's goin' up over there.
Yes, it's true, the BBQ is a multi-fandom whore. But it's not as bad as all that, just Farscape, Smallville, Justice League, Angel, uh... oh, Queer as Folk (that one's Hope's fault), spent almost all day Friday reading Highlander fic. Shoot. It's a sad, sad day. I have homework to do, people!
Added the Fluffy Bunnies board to the links. Yes. The BBQ said "Fluffy. Bunnies." Hey! There's a whole category marked, "The John Years". Neato. But, dang it. Time keeps on slippin', slippin'. Poo.
See, now, Rebecca's gonna be pissed 'cause we spent the weekend reading instead of coding. *pout*
Meandering around, digging for 'scape fic gold and struck it over at the Dark Brigade. Seems I may have found a new author as well. Anyone know how long PDXScaper has been posting? Anyway, check it out...
Pulled Under, by PDXScaper ::G:: Rightfully categorized by the author as 'angsty John'. Angsty but relatively painless, a very truthful and wonderfully coherent mind trip. Loved it.
Ah! Definitely a new author (man, I love this!). Snurched from a 11/11/03 post by the author:
I started at DWTB...so it didn't have the impact it should have the first time I saw it since I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Going on through S4 WWL1 and 2 really had an impact on me and then the final WSS 1, 2 and 3. Finally when I got to see S1, S2 and S3 all in order. Nerve and HM, LGM 1, 2 and 3 had me on the edge of my seat.
Most dramatic: my vote goes to ITLD 1 and 2.
Episode I can't get enough of: right now it's Fractures and Terra Firma.
Can't watch again: probably none...but IP:IA is definitely a kleenex box handy episode.
Okay, this is good. Read. Enjoy. Go to the 2004 Farscape FanFic Awards and Nominate! Consider this one mine, ck!
Yeah, there was a time we said that if another author used the line: "Be smart." "Don't…push her." "She takes… …time.", I'd shoot myself, but just gotta say, it really depends on the context, read on...
Fractured, by PDXScaper ::G:: It's facinating to read post ep fic by an author with new eyes and not inconsiderable skill.
No passing out happened during the Ben photo-op, which we almost didn't do because we were CERTAIN of the passing out thing. Felt oddly relaxing actually, although we did have Sis and Karen to hang onto. Turned out that we loved the photo op, but like everything fannish, it's horribly addicting. Beware!
The line for Ben's POP was more than 100 deep, but went quickly. As always, talking with other fans in the line is the best part and makes the experience go by much too fast. Ben was adorable, warm and friendly, although he didn't have time to absorb what the hell an empty bottle of 'John's KeedvaBBQ Sauce' was supposed to signify before we we're huddling around him trying to make the photographer happy. Very kind people refer to the BBQ as, "that tall woman", and with back flat against the wall and knees pressed into the back of the chair, we're whimpering, "I can't reach the arm of the chair." Ben was amused and the top of my head got just a bit truncated; so, we're happy. Ecstatic, actually. *g*
Oh, and, there are eight legs on a transport pod, people. It is NOT a tough question.
Sis got a photo-op with Claudia and was somewhat awed to observe that the closer you got, the more beautiful Claudia got, and then lamented that perhaps God should'a spread that around a little. LOL! I'm sure Claudia doesn't mind. ;)
It's probably a good time to mention that Creation's folks were amazing this year. They really put some effort into being decent human beings, and treating us as though we were as well. They were helpful, courteous, and didn't inflict 12 year olds on us (the best part, imho). Honestly, we were prepared to quote federal child labor laws for them (we know they're volunteering, this does not impact on our general loathing of being told what to do by a 12 year old. Repeatedly.).
Well done to everyone who wrote and bitterly complained about the godawful treatment we got last year. Don't forget to write with appropriate praise for the improvement, 'cause you just frellin' hate it when people complain but don't praise, right?
My personal praise to Tall Red-head Lady who took a reasonable amount of crap from me and responded with appropriate apologies. Grace under pressure is a required skill, and this lady had it.
All this being said, they do need to pay more attention to customers with special needs. I'd have to say that they were courting civil action by having the elderly gentleman with the walker standing in line, and the young woman who came unescorted and had to maneuver through the crowd and the lines on crutches with a leg brace up to her hip. And those were just the obvious potential accidents waiting to happen. Creation needs to designate one or two people for identifying those issues, and handle them appropriately.
Ally did get a chance to venture into the fanfic room, sadly there were other folks sampling the work and we couldn't make off with anything (not that we didn't try). Also; revelation, found we couldn't keep from pimping, even in person. We were struck by the fact that although we've been off 'scape fic for a while, we didn't find any work we hadn't already read. Wassup?
Concerned to note that all the Save Farscape folk we saw looked as exhausted as we felt, but given how it's all turned out thus far, I'd actually like to have been a fly on the wall when they had their "let's get shit-faced and celebrate!" party.
Man oh man oh man oh man... I was lamenting the fact that there was no decent fic to read (decent fic of some length... drabbles are one thing but they only whet the whistle... I like LONG fic). And SETI_fan never disappoints.
And, though not about Braca, I've been more inclined to read post DmD/SoD fic... and it helps when there's schmoop. Whitelight promised FBF some schmoop I don't know how long ago and this is it. Symbolism by Whitelight ::PG-13::
Then there's the Trading Card Porn. Some time ago, FBF, Thea and Crankygrrl made a pact to write season 2 porn. Now, I've seen Thea's first attempt, I've seen drafts of Cranky's (and maybe she posted it, but I could have sworn there was another story) and FBF is still awaiting the *ahem* email from the friend that said he would *ahem* describe a certain activity...
But, Thea has now up'd the ante and posted another wonderful season 2 porn fic. :-) Pre-"Home on the Remains". I like fic (er porn) with plot. This has a plot. Porn have plot, right? Heh heh Famished by thea ::NC-17::
I usually don't go for the crossovers. I know, I've written a few myself, am in the process of writing one, but usually I don't like them. But, this one, I like. I like alot. Go, read. Send the author happy thoughts. Allegator Alley by Regala Electra ::PG::
With a lot of my favorite authors at the con, I wasn't expecting to see much from them. Alas, Crash posted a story that is just precious. Guy Stuff by KernilCrash ::G::
Then of course, there is the littany of UnCon Bad!Fic at the LJ's. At last count, Shrift, Kernezelda, Megascaper, kazbaby and I know there's someone else... boofadil? maybe? that have been zapped with such lovely categories as J/A Schmoop-turned-porn, John Crichton- slut of the UTs, Cliche fic, and pious Zhaan fic and mpreg fic. You Bad!fic writers (fbf, whitelight, feldman, kixxa, kerlin, and a crapload more), you ... you... you people are sick sick sick. That's all I have to say. (big cheeky grin)
Ticket to Burbank Con: Astronomically too high for me to afford. Therapy Bill after reading UnCon Bad!Fic: $1,283,827.02 shrift's response thus far ("Hear that? That's the baby Jesus crying!" and "I'm not drunk enough for this!"): Priceless.
Got notification today that Farscape Ally received a nomination for 'Best Farscape FanFic Site', or maybe it was 'Best Farscape FanFic Archive'... something like that. Jeez, gotta take my own advice and read the FanFic Awards site. *g*
Anyway, Ally is proud to accept the nomination, and would like to do so on behalf of CretKid and herself. Mostly 'cause CK has been doin' most of the work while Ally gets edjumacated.
It's raining. Nothing on telly. Avoiding homework like the plaque. Seemed like a good time to fiddle. Please bear with.
o2difor gave Ally a link to new board that, mysteriously, caters directly to the BBQ's angst kink. ;) We are told that shippers and the faint of heart should keep a safe distance or have said heart heartlessly trammelled on. Just looking at the board home page makes our collective hearts twist. Best of luck to The Dark Brigade. We'll be a'lurkin'. *g*
Links are being updated as we speak... type, whatever.
Stories by nominated 'New Writers' for the 2003 Sparkys will be archived here. Links will go up as soon as Ally gets some. Not that some, some nominations! ;)
And Dreaming Kid has some stuff going on, including how to not get lost in Kansas, and some links we desperately need to follow. Damn this link checking thing!
Anyone know what happened to The Void? Our link is fershinitzis and keeps taking us to a paysforsurveys.com page. Wassup?
Lordy. Forgot what it was like to redesign this puppy. Well, some people got fishin'. The BBQ got Farscape Ally.
Fic writers are keeping Farscape alive, and it's time again to recognize the creative talent that goes into a well crafted tale.
There can never be enough feedback, and one of the best; most giddy forms, is a nomination, and heaven forfend... an actual Award, all for doing what you love.
Farscape Ally is pitching in, hosting the New Author Award, and CK and Ally will tell you exactly what that means as soon as we figure it out ;)
Pondering nominations think... MTV music awards!
Breakthrough Writer.
Think... new writers, first posting a story or stories in 2003.
Writers who simply.
Blew. Your. Mind.
New Authors who make Ally shiver and go, "Guh!" are the best kind!
This of course, is all news to CretKid, who has been--let's just say it--INSTRUMENTAL--in keeping Farscape Ally an up-to-date source for Farscape Fan Fiction worth reading. And now this.
All Ally can do now is hope CK won't figure a way to kill us with some strange archaic geological technique.
Yes, it is FanFic Award Season. In the grand tradition of the Farscape FanFic Awards that LeatherGirl graciously ran for the past several years (there's a link over there on the left somewhere for these), Jeff and Cass have put together The Sparkys. Nominations started yesterday, I believe, and will carry on through January 5.
Please, please, please, vote for your favorite stories in the categories. Lots to choose from, lots of places to refer your favorite stories.
