My greatest annoyance with @thevortex email is that I don't have a 'reply all' function. So- thanks to Jadeshand for that email yesterday (Subject: Impressions). I'm dyin' here! *g* The collective hysteria is makin' it hard to breathe! LOL

What Flavour Are You? I taste like Menthol.
I taste like Menthol.

I am refreshingly different; some people don't appreciate that. My sharp honesty gets up some people's noses, while others really enjoy it. I am something of an acquired taste. What Flavour Are You?

Max proves that anyone can master html. *g* But at this point, all I really want to know is, who is Alex?

Maayan's channeling DK over at Divine Collective. Gotta admit, my eyebrows shot through the roof and I cackled madly, snuffling and wiping tears from my eyes.

...and Orchid works on a new 'do'. Poor baby. On the other hand, you always 'know' when a writer is actually. um. writing. Their blog becomes eerily silent.

Birthsister archives Love's Labor Lost at Leviathan. But what about Lifetime?

Maayan does the same with Red Shift. Still thinkin' about that one, can't get anything to coalesce. Brain keeps dancing over the moments.

Transcript for DWTB complete. WIP for WiSC up, probably by tomorrow. Chain Reaction is keeping the box and the mind-- busy.

Volume 1 of the Farscape DVD set for Season 2 is releasing on June 25, 2002. You can preorder at buy.com for $24.99 or at Amazon for $29.99. If you're lucky enough to have a Suncoast video outlet near you, you can probably reserve a copy for around 25 bucks. This volume contains the first four episodes of Season 2. Only question is; will it be production order, (Dream A Little Dream, Mind the Baby, Vitas Mortis and Taking the Stone), or broadcast order (Mind the Baby, Vitas Mortis, Taking the Stone and Crackers Don't Matter). I'm voting broadcast order, as the product description at Amazon indicates there will be a commentary with Claudia Black and director, Ian Watson for "Crackers Don't Matter". Annoyingly, if you buy the 'best of Season 1' DVD from blockbuster, you can also get a commentary by Ben Browder and Claudia Black for the episode 'Family Ties' - which wasn't available on the regular DVD Volume 11. *sigh*

Can I get a 'hell-yeah' for Kernil Crash's Hot Bodies Fiction Challenge. Oh, and for pointing out the following fic link:

this woman's work

Thanks to JadesHand for pointing us over to FarscapeFantasy, to view a new music video. This one from Rory Kearn at Crichtonism's.com; 'This Woman's Work'. Available only in QuickTime. This one's a keeper.

Artist: Kate Bush

Album: The Sensual World (1989)

Title: This Woman's Work

(lyrics courtesy of pure lyrics.com)

Pray God you can cope.

I stand outside this woman's work,

This woman's world.

Ooh, it's hard on the man,

Now his part is over.

Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.

I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things I should've said,

That I never said.

All the things we should've done,

That we never did.

All the things I should've given,

But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,

Make it go away.

Give me these moments back.

Give them back to me.

Give me that little kiss.

Give me your hand.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.

I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,

That were never said.

All the things we should've done,

That we never did.

All the things that you needed from me.

All the things that you wanted for me.

All the things that I should've given,

But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.

Just make it go away now.

fiction resources!

Wow. Thanks to Lillie for both remembering the story, and for pointing me in the right direction. Hey... at least it's not archived here. But the links to the story were right there, in the February 2002 archive of the blog.

The Healing Touch, by imloco2

Part 1,
Part 2.

What Goes Around..., by imloco2

Part 1,
Part 2,
Part 3,
Part 4.

'What Goes Around' was written/published first around the end of 'January 2002' and 'The Healing Touch' was written/published mid-February as a prequel to 'What Goes Around'. I can't say what reading order the author would recommend. I don't think it hurts to read them either way. Enjoy. And... thanks for the question, and the answer!

fic inexpert

Got an email asking for assistance in finding a fic. Sadly, we failed. Only have a vague recollection of the plot myself, no helpful details could be shaken loose, even after repeated pounding. I know this is going to be embarassing, as it'll turn out it's archived right here or something... but I'm gonna hand the question off, hoping someone else has a better sponge than I. *g*

Ally-- Need help finding a fic, please. Can't remember the title or author, but it's the one where Alex becomes an astronaut, enters a wormhole and ends up on Moya. It was written before the final 4 eps of season 3, John and Aeryn are together and it ends with Alex and John trying to develop a wormhole so she can go back. There was also a prequel written afterward

anyone?

Ally's Note: What would happen if you couldn't find what you want, or couldn't have what you need?

Rating: G

Disclaimer: The characters and vision of Farscape belong to Henson Co., and the Sci-Fi Channel. They are SUPPOSED to be in charge of the Youses Muses Gang, and if they aren’t going to keep those people locked up, I’m not going to stop writing. Aeryn stopped in to tell me this story first, then John showed up with his side of the tale, so anything that takes place here isn’t my fault!

Category: Alternate Universe.

Spoilers: This contains spoilers for “Dog With Two Bones” (Ep 3.22). If you haven’t seen it, please save yourself and go away.

Archiving: Absolutely. Please just let me know where its going.

Feedback: I LOVE feedback. My mail at KernilCrash@yahoo.com loves to get messages, but I reserve the right to respond and thank you for your input.

Excerpt: "... He straightened up and her stomach did a double flip. Relief. Sweeping relief that she had finally found him. She’d almost begun to believe the rumors that he was dead. ..."

harvest of the dry sponge

If orchid doesn't check her email soon, I will pass! *waves to Mom*

Robyn points us 'down' the page to a lovely vignette over at a toe in the water. Fialka hits a homer here, as in this post-Relativity character study, Aeryn remains cloaked by the outside POV, and therefore remains what she is... an enigma, a mostly unknowable commodity. Unknowable because of her nature. Lovely.

Everytime I think about the concept that Aeryn is unknowable by her nature, I remember that I can't say with certainty what she will, or what she won't do. She jars us with seeming wild variances of nature; mourning for the vorc; harrowing Crais's soul in the chair and then walking away; and even more jarring-- while his screams chilled my blood, she just. didn't. hear.

Acceptance. Probably the key to enjoying watching and reading Aeryn. Hm.

Okay, that was a LOT shorter than what I wrote last night, but essentially the same.

Finished The Right Brain's, UFO, Part 9. Red blows it out of the park! Absolutely flawless. I adored this part. The radio 'surveillance' of the planet; hysterical! Excellent use of same to bookend the piece. Nice bit of 'near shippiness' to wrench my heart! This one just may be my favorite of the serial thus far. Thanks to Aangelhart, LateScaper (oooOOooo, nice eye-- didn't think of that... uh oh), Peacekeeperchuck, and Nighthawk62 for their wonderful feedback. I could not have said it better. Oh, and that stench of wrinkly three-eyed rat? Gettin' worse.

html hell!

Don'tcha hate it when all your efforts to code 'off site' get screwed up cause no matter how closely you scrutinize your work, you're always just a tiny frelling bit 'off'? *sigh*

Anyway, here's again, what I tried THREE TIMES to get right for cofax before I very wisely gave up and crawled away in shame... *snerk*

Cool bit of feedback on Xenophilia - title rocks, btw -- left on the comments link at the link over... uh... there. Check it out. Very nice...

Feedback on Xenophilia

Not a letter bomb, but it did come in on Tuesday.

Now... I ask you-- what is so frelling tough about that?

Hm. Also had a whole 'thing' on the Aeryn characterization thing, but I seem to have overwritten it. How nice. Well, I'll 'attempt' to reconstruct it and post later. Few more thoughts on the hardassbitch as well. Fun!

Cool. New stuff at Leviathan. Nancy Brown. Reading through I'm thinking, nice, very nice, too bad I can't buy into it. Then it hit, 'wham!'-- and I laughed my ass off. Good one, Nance!

Fundraising Time!

Well, virtually every day is fundraising time... although usually its the long boring and occassionally annoying process of contacts; generating interest; more contacts; advertisement; even more contacts; bringing resources together into one hat; recontacting contacts; all working toward the big payoff!. So, it's always a special day when event day finally arrives! Yessiree Bob. I love my job, but never moreso than when we're off doing something incredibly ridiculous in order to raise money for non-profit organizations. Now, yes, I do a sort of a PR thing at that large impersonal organization I work for. Our specific job is to make everyone in the neighborhood all warm and fuzzy about us being in their neighborhood-- even though we are.... well, large and impersonal. So today, we had our frelling huge fundraiser to benefit non-profit organizations whose specific goal is to assist victims of child abuse. Yeah. Not so much fun when you think of it in those terms, but hey, good cause. So, all day long did nothing but sit in the sun and collect money. I love my job.

Next up; Blood Drive. Followed by the always painful golf tournament, then followed or preceded, too close for comfort really, by the all new and improved fundraiser for Special Olympics. Life is good. Hey, Golf. Created specifically to generate massive funds. Golfers rock! It's gonna be a helluva ride through the rest of the year, topped off nicely by a trip to Burbank!

Today: thinking seriously about pink shirts and white skirts. Something 'non-threating' to defray my overall 'hardassbitch' persona. Honestly, somewhere deep inside I'm actually very nice. Hell I schmooze for a living fercrissakes! But when push comes to shove, 'hardassbitch' always makes an appearance. So, today I'm thinking... maybe if I wear a pink shirt I'll be less threatening when h.a.b. shows. Don't get me wrong, the h.a.b.; well, she's all in the attitude, language precise and cutting-- non-profane. I'm actually very good at keeping to recreational swearing, fully understanding that some folks take that sort of thing kind of hard. Also trained my child: "Sweetie, some people don't like to hear those words, and if you say them at school, Mom will get a call to come visit the principal... and we don't want that, now do we?" -- of course the day he first practiced flingin' the bird my response was a bit ... harsher... hardassbitch to the max. But, that's another story.

I'm wicked excited... 14 days. Oy. And next Friday, gonna take a day... lay around, watch Farscape from early morning to... wee hours of the morning.

Came home to a birthday pressie from me Mum. I adore quilts. Is this something that indicates that I might predate dirt? If so, who cares! I love them. My grandmother, whom we all used to call 'Moco' for some unknowable reason, made quilts. This is the first one I've had since the-x stole off with one I bought at the Roseville Auction many moons ago. Now all I gotta do is make an ambush rush on Father's Day and spoil them both, delivering pressies, crab and champagne and I won't feel like such a bad daughter for a while.

And okay, I grant that Makikko's 'Hard/Work' is a great story. Bitching Opening; Nicely Developed; Good Pacing; well done on the Adult Situations; but.... who are these people? I just couldn't buy into the character presented in the story. The great bastion of canon is not overly sacred to me, but my brain went down on the slippery slope of characterization, and I just slid right over the top, couldn't hold it as Aeryn for a half a second. And not merely for the 'adult sitch' portion of the fic. So, tough recc for the BBQ. Maybe you should see for yourself. Oh, it's rated NC17. So, those under 17, or easily shocked must give it a pass. Sorry.

Working on dialogue only version of WiSC, finally. Watching and rewatching, and yes that bit of ADR that 'slipped by', did so for good reason. Lipsynch says: "-now asshole!" -- ding! John has such a potty mouth when he's overstressed. Ben and Wayne absolutely rock!

Reading too much blog. Lemme go look for fic.

UFO

News from the land of the Right Brain, re: UFO story status.

"Part of 9 demanded a rewrite, Crichton is so difficult, that man, I swear. Sheesh. And the weekend was a wash. Then I had to watch Buffy, 2 hours of that, then the requisite endless discussions on that. umm, what else do I have. LOL. Okay, those are all my excuses for now.

What's today? Wednesday? Friday afternoon at the absolute latest for 9. 10 will follow quickly after. I may get it done tonight but I feel it's an important chapter, don't want to rush it." ~ Red ~

Thanks for the update. Just the thing for a no-Farscape Friday. Brain Fic!

home again

Crash has returned! Hallelujah! Now... back to work! *Ally cracks the fic whip*

Nerri1029, who surely must be a relative no matter how distant, posts a chat transcript of the chat with GiGi Edgly that Scifi.com had today in the Auditorium. Without telling anyone. Way to go, Scifi! Interestingly, Gigi reveals that the production schedule has them shooting three episodes at a time, and doing ADR two eps at a time. Makes my brain go, "hm," as in the first season they bemoaned having to shoot TWO eps simultaneously, and were quite relieved when they started shooting just one. Now they're doing three? What's the hurry? "Hm."

RydraWong posts a treatise on interim relationships, or: "He/She is just the Rebound!"

Okay, aeryncrichton charms me with more pathetic shippyness. Arg. And here I thought I was a hard hearted pragmatist. *sigh* Well. The perfect audience. No matter the tone, if it's nicely written and makes me whimper or smile... you got me.

ChiannaWannabe makes me cackle insanely with an insane crossover fic. But really, check out that style, that prose... that Spike voice... mm. Nicely written, but that hair is Platinum. *g* This is chapter two. Chapter one and succeeding chapters will likely be found at fanfic.net. Be sure to dodge those popups.

Untitled 'Shippy' Vignette, by aeryncrichton ( pd 5/22/02 )

Untitled Buffy/Farscape Crossover - Chapter 2, by ChiannaWannabe ( pd 5/22/02 )

I cannot thank unohoo enough for a blog referral. Perusing Bitter Hag with my usual turn; examine; digest; every word style, I laughed til my nephew burst in, demanding to know, "Just what the hell's so damn funny!?" I do not think I've laughed harder in a great long while. And, no, this is NOT me! LOL. Gotta add this one just for the snark fest. Lady is a killer. And, uh, my parents had a Studebaker when I was a wee tike, and I figured I was in trouble when I remembered licking S&H Greenstamps, metal ice trays with those levers, and *gasp* mimeographing the paper at school (Elementary!). And I refuse to believe that because I had skates that screwed onto my tennies with a skate key, that this makes me even near the age of dirt. Anyway, all this still makes the BBQ a bit younger than dirt. *snerk* Adding this one to blog links just because I need the laughs from time to time. Thanks, unohoo! Gastrointenstinal disturbance. Gotta use that one sometime. The lowdown on the "Older than Dirt Quiz" moved to the archive. Seriously, if nothing else will get my mother onto the web, this will!

I wonder if I can still get an autograph from Maayan if I only bring the cover page of No Dominion to Burbank. After all, thing is frelling huge! Well, maybe by then Red will be complete (Ally ducks)... decisions, decisions.

This is not a sign of senility. You know, as above, Dirt: Younger Than. Uh, any other writers goin' to Burbank?

I think I'm rambling a bit. Must focus.

Writing everyday is an interesting exercise. I used to think that this was the last thing I'd want to do, cause, damn it, I write all frekin' day at work, who needs it? Never thought I'd have a computer at home either, 'cause, well, see above. *sigh* It's an interesting tradeoff.

Officially missing Part 9 of UFO. 7 days since Part 8. *whimper*

the gods of css

I 'know' there must be someone I have to thank for discovering CSS... oh, yeah, Blogger. Thanks, man! CSS-- wow. Someone needs to make 'ahlot' of money off that. Just eliminated 48% of the hassles related to transcribing and posting transcripts. CSS means the return of the 'tranny in progress'! Oh boy. It's not really true that you learn something everyday. At least if you're not 'trying'-- but man, when it happens-- giddy time!

Some fic...

Ooooh! New blog to read... brand new, not too many frills, but the brain is RIGHT out there! Sunshiner

Now.. hm. Fic, fic, fic...

Hm. Makin' the rounds... buncha stuff at farscape bb... I hear Crash has posted Cloths of Heaven at fanfic.net. I wonder if it's as good there as it is here. Incredibly short on time, have to get caught up on reading and posting links tomorrow. Wonder how the brain's doin'?

Derailment: Smallville has some incredibly awesome Directors and DOP's! And Michael Rosenbaum? Awesome. Amazing. Wonderful. Geez. I kinda like this show. The writing is cheezing me off. *gigglesnort*

popups suck

Hey, up and running a bit earlier than advertised. Little something for our enjoyment, but first...

<rant> Okay, fed up with fanfic.net. Time for them to get the spam royalty crown and have done with it. Also not loving the very many WIPs that go up unmarked as WIP. *grr* Especially when you get spammed into next week whenever you click a story link over there. *very big heavy sigh* Someone's gotta pay for this, I understand, but do NOT like the invasive popup ad thing. </rant>

It's in the details, the layers, the twists and turns

Ah, to be a writer if only to get the kind of feedback this kind of intensely cellular writing engenders. I'm thinking about angry mobs with torches, here. LOL. Thanks, cofax.

I get a giggle everytime I read the thing about John feeling so nauseated he couldn't eat a thing... well, except Pizza... and beer.... and chocolate. hehe. Betan rocks. Hey, uh. Chocolate and Beer? That is almost as gross as jellfu. *sigh* I love a good story. Gotta wait 16 days for Orchid's next, which, guaranteed, will hurt & be exciting, all in one big 'ol, "oh-my-god! why are you doing this to me!?!?" kind of way. No efficient projection basis for Maayan's next, but you know Ally's waiting on tenderhooks for that one... and, uh, got a tease that Max is also circling... well, which I 'hope' was a tease...

So... anything good out there... right now? *bag*

Okay, something for the weekend, if such is your cup of tea: Premiere tranny complete.

Back on Monday. Geocities willing.

Okay then. Tomorrow Yahoo/Geocities will begin updating their site and I won't have access to FTP, so. We're all on our own til Monday, unless I squeak under the wire with something interesting. Later

UFO - Part 8, by The Right Brain ( pd 5/15/02 )

Parasites & Premonitions, by Lomer ( pd 5/15/02 )

Various schemes and plans went into the recycle today, and yes indeed, the BBQ is headed to Burbank in November 2002. Wouldn't miss it for the whole world. Event necessitated long conversations with friends. No reading tonight, but already had a bit today, although, mostly worked on Premiere tranny.

Did enjoy part 1 of GlassShoe's latest, 'Small Favors'. Interesting, nice characterization, odd story progression. Be aware, the author concedes this is a work in progress and the end may be a while in coming. Think we'll hang out and give part 2 a taste. Gotta find out what's happening. Speaking of WIP; The Right Brain assures us that a few surprises await us in UFO. The suspicous aroma of 'long fic' is copped to by the author-- with assurances that we will see the completed story.

To Be Continued's... tough to hang in for, but occassionally, well worth the wait.

Picked up the new Farscape Mag. Some interesting spoilerish things in there. Love reading DK's words. A little bit just to make us go "Whoo Hoo!" without being spoilerish at all. Season 4 eps will be broadcast in widescreen! Oh, Mama! I ask you, why would he tease us like that?

FIC RANT: Read this. Awesome story, character moments are simply intense. The BBQ actually posted feedback! Well, on part 7. :) Cool.

Okay, cool. Thanks for the many responses re: what the frell is plot? Been doing a lot of reading on the subject today, and it's all so simple, in a oh my god what have I gotten myself into?! kind of way. Orchid adds a, well, more than a few thoughts on the subject. Cripes. You guys are gonna end up turning Ally into a writer if you're not careful. Did she change her blog to a serif font to tease me? LOL

In the interest of making better readers... can someone 'please' provide a concise explanation of 'plot'...? We think we might be clueless. All this time we're thinking that plot is that tricky little 'central idea' the the entire story turns upon, nothing more substantial than that. Whatever the 'main theme' of the story is, there plot is to be found. So. Have we been misled? Seriously. Confused here.

Also, toying with archiving formats. Seems that Ally prefers to read stories unadorned by italicized, bolded, underlined or CAPITALIZED formatting. Ally really prefers to find the emphasis within the words themselves rather than having a big 'ol finger pointing to certain text, screaming... "there! it's all right there!" Ahem. That being said, we do realize there is a lot of good writing out there that has all of this helpful fonting... 'case, you know, the reader is asleep. *snerk* Anyhoo. Our preferred font for archiving/reading is a plain non-serif font...( like this one ) no curlycues, no little horizontal lines at the top and bottom of the letters, just straight up and down lines that look like HELL when italicized. So, switching over to serif font in the archiving... in consideration of authors text embellishments. However, now on looking at them, I'm torn over what really looks good/best/easier on the eyes. Anyway, judge for yourself; Ghosts went up that way, and yesterday switched Should've Brought A Bag to serif font. The latest author's afterwords are in serif fonts. Oh, btw, new author's afterwords from One Eye for "No One Left Behind" and "Perish Twice" are available.

Anyway. Looking for some 'considered opinions on readability & plot'. Email is good, comments button below also available for your thoughts. Blogging perfectly okay as well. We'll find it eventually. Help us out here.

Orchid tries out her more flowery attributes with a bit of prose. And if she thinks she can get out of an agreement by calling this 'smut', she's got another think comin'. *eg*

A few new Author's Afterwords have been posted and I'm not certain I've posted appropriate notices here... it all starts to run together after a while, what with the whole damp sponge thing. Anyway, if you haven't checked out the Author's Afterwords for aeryncrichton's "Last Seen Standing", and "DWTB Epilogue Trilogy", and BetanSurvey's "Should've Brought A Bag", you oughta give yourself the pleasure. They're all linked to the stories over at Ally's Archive. I'd like to invite any author with a story archived on this site to please feel free to add an afterword if you'd like. Just email them to Ally at johnskeedvabbq@thevortex.com, and we'll get 'em up soon as possible. Work almost complete on archiving for Max's, "In The Company of Ghosts". Given me impetus to add a few more of the epics, rather than just hope they'll be around when I need 'em again.

In The Company of Ghosts, by KodiakkeMax ( KodiakkeMax@yahoo.com )

Ally's Note: Artwork for the story is provided by the lovely and talented Perri Smith. Alternate universe is such a small word when trying to describe this story. Summary and Excerpt below are taken from Part 1 and 2 of a 3 part epic vision. Author's Afterword is pending.

Summary: A mere moment, passing unnoticed. A choice, unremarkable in a daily web of choices. And thus two Prowlers, two pilots... and two very different destinations.

Excerpt: "... His figure was silhouetted against the setting sun as he climbed out the module. Moving so differently from the last time she'd seen him get out of that cockpit. When she had to help him out, because he was so weak he couldn't move.

Flashback, the vividness a blade that cut her with a raw, fine edge: "I don't . . . hurt. I . . . I did some good things. I'm proud of my life. And I'm with . . . friends."

She hadn't thought about whether he'd counted her among them. It hadn't mattered at the time; he hadn't been speaking to her, anyway. Their moments together had been spent mostly in silence, as he slipped away, and as she held him -- the knowledge of him -- and hid it in the void inside her, the only safe place. ..."

What is it about Iain Banks that makes me f'up all of his books? I mean, had to give a friend a copy of The Bridge which had a suspicious brownish substance ingrained into practically half the book, and now.... The Wasp Factory... same frelling thing. *sheesh* Is it okay to blame the author for making me take them everywhere I go? I mean, you're bound to get a few warwounds when you get dragged all over instead of staying nice and safe on the table.

Pink still refusing to come out of the CD player. I need some new music, but something that will keep the visitors coming back. Well, gotta run and go whine to me doctor and have it confirmed by a professional: "Yep, that must hurt alright." *sheesh*

Sometimes I simply adore email! aeryncrichton gives us a heads up to a S4 promo photo montage on scifi.com. Loved the barrage of reaction emails! Are we a little TOO excited now?!

And yes, Virginia, I am still reading Max's, TCoG3. Sadly I only have a few thousand words to go and then there'll be THAT word. *snivel* Enjoying it immensely. Who knew it was possible to make Aeryn an even more complex character than she already is?

Catching up on links I've let just lie there. Hey... the frelling knee is killing me, okay? This is my excuse, and I'm stickin' to it. The 'professionals' say, "Hm. Must've strained it or something." And for this they're paid... well, way more than ME!

A little plus from the BB. Transcript of Ben Rambles from Season 3.2 Episode DVD (UK), provided nicely by LDGUK, and reproduced here, 'cause Ben said I gotta. Thanks, LDGUK! I'm told the thing is sectioned, Ben responds to random questions from an unheard, off screen interviewer. Ben goes solo here, interview opens with Ben in the simply gorgeous suit from Farscape Undressed (works for me right there!)

“That’s right, John Crichton as you’ve never seen him… in a suit… in a tie.”

“I wrote the eighth episode of our third season…Green Eyed Monster…scary as hell…because when you sit in front of a typewriter, or sit in front of your computer keyboard, it all sorta makes sense. When you get there on the day, like many things, you start to think…why the hell did I write that? The other thing about the writing of the script is that when David Kemper approached me and said ‘do you want to write a script?’…I thought yeah, that’s a good idea. I didn’t realize I was being suckered in and punished” *laughs* “‘cause writing a script for Farscape is a monumental task. You go through your first draft, then re-writes, then another re-write, then you put out your blues and your pinks, your yellows…you know…so I’m there with Tony Tilse, the director, and we’re re-writing on the day. Then we’ll get a scene coming up so we’ll put out some pages on that so production knows what’s going on. So it’s an all consuming task. Pretty exciting but more scary..”

“Sydney is a multi cultural city, just about anybody can blend in here. As long as you’re not running down the street going ‘I AM AN AMERICAN’…talk really loud, use the American voice and you draw a bit of attention..”

“The internet is an amazing thing…and it has an influence as to whether shows continue or they don’t…and getting the word out on the show…it’s a very important part of the scifi genre that the internet community is heavily involved in. So…if I want to find out how an interview turned out I can get on the net and someone will have posted a transcript…in fact almost nothing misses the fans of the show, and it gets posted and re-posted.”

“This is the first time I’ve held one of these” Ben is holding a John Crichton action figure “So I gotta inspect the goods" *laughs* "John Crichton, season one, episode one, we have the helmet, we have the…the ice cream suit is what we call it here, the khakis, the ice cream suit, haven’t seen that in a while. How do you ever imagine that there is going to be an action figure which your name is attached… let’s have a look…” Ben pulls up the jacket of the figure and looks at it’s back “…there…BARBIE" *laughs* “It’s a bit of a mind spin…I don’t really know what to think about something like this…I guess it’s cool…it’s a… but” *laughs* what would you do? Here’s the action figure, next John Crichton the inflatable doll” *laughs*

“John Crichton occasionally kisses strange alien women” *laughs* “No comment” *laughs* “there’s probably nothing I can say that won’t get me in trouble”

“I think that we have a good bunch of people, in the first place…a very talented group of actors, and there is an additional… part of that is that in Australia you don’t have the star system in place… So that if one misbehaves you get put in your place rather quickly… Um, it’s a very egalitarian society and that’s a good thing for us, and good thing for the show. You cannot walk around an Australian set, and be accepted, and be part of the set if you are going to try to place yourself above everybody… I don’t think you should anyway. The fact is that on any given day there is maybe 300 people working on this show and a fair number of those people work as long and as hard as any member of the cast, myself included. And it’s important to remember that when you are doing something like this… we’re just one part of a very, very large organization trying to bring Farscape to the screen"

And that's it. Nothing much he hasn't said before. But to see him sayin' it in that suit. Ah, heaven.

That's gotta be enough words, right?

Oy, and a couple of new short fics from orchidcactus, posted on the bb and over at orchid's place.

Untitled Ficlets, by orchidcactus

Excerpt taken from ficlet 1: "... He'd bounced back, fought back, and come out on top, hadn't he? Wasn't that why he was here, on this claustrophobic world that reeked of sour sweat? John Crichton, bouncing back, doing what it took, one more lonely world that proved a dead-end. ..."

Excerpt taken from ficlet 2: "... He nodded in return, eyes going back to the fighter. Sharp. Hard. Like the woman that now stood in the open cockpit, vaulting lightly to the ground. Dust trailed from the impact, pushed by a breath of stale wind. She stood with her hands loose at her sides, ready. Twenty paces separated them. Closest he'd been in five cycles. ..."

Can the Arctic Flower write, or what? Hey, if it helps, when I saved these to disk so I can read them curled up in bed, I titled the first "Untitled Dog", by orchid, and the other was, "Fate", by orchid -- yeah, I know, the bbq suffers a dearth of imagination. And we're all becoming way too good at this dishin' out the pain thing.

Maayan adds some thoughts on the ship, which, surprise-surprise, the bbq agrees with 100%.

And, happily, orchid tells us that spring is arriving in Alaska. That's scheduled to last, what, 142 hours? Unfortunately I can't link to the post, which means orchid isn't helpin' me out here. Oh, and words on chocolate, smut, and even less savory things. Oh my!

My email at johnskeedvabbq@thevortex.com holds about a teaspoons worth of data. I've been filled to the gills all day long. If you've tried to email me, and I haven't answered, I didn't get it. Apologies. Thanks to a lovely friend sending me pictures I was asking for. Nothing nicer than an orchid wallowing in a sea of green grass! Not to mention the mutant lily's and the furry rats. *g*

Meanwhile I've been reading In The Company of Ghosts, Effects at Perihelion a bit at a time today, mostly working on a transcript for... Premiere! Yes. I am nuts. I love that ep. Love it when they rebroadcast and remind me of that.

Oh, and I swore I'd throw out a teaser for Sunday evening and this is it. KernilCrash left a post 3:22 story in our care, to post 'sometime after 3:22 airs', and then went *poof* on vacation or something. So, Ally has deemed this coming Tuesday as a good day for Crash Fic. Therefore, we are planning on posting this story on the Dominion Bulletin board on Tuesday, May 7, 2002. Keep an eye peeled for...

Cloths of Heaven, by KernilCrash

Finally had time to read Atana's 'Retrospection'. Beautiful story. Just love it. Want it for Ally's. Can I label it "potentially AU"? *g*

retrospection: noun the act or process or an instance of surveying the past.

Okay, thanks to Amy for the heads up! Looks like it's a nice quiet Sunday with a good book after all! Oh, and thanks to the Maxx as well.

Retrospection, by Atana_Mirtai ( pd 5/3/02 )

For orchid's sake I'll note: The BBQ posts exerpts all the time without asking permission. Never occured. Apologies to all the pissed authors.

Okay, and so, as an author (and this is for 'any' author), do you find that sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss, and sometimes it rockets out of the frelling ballpark? And, do you have a sense of it 'while' it's happening? (Interviewer at ScapeRoute is free to snurch).

Always gotten a very strong 'Camelot' vibe off of Farscape. Even moreso recently. Always seen Crichton forced into the role of Arthur, with the remaining cast filling in the remainder of the roles. Wondering if the old woman is meant to be Morgaine or Merlin.

Reading, watching, listening, reading, too much!

Nice story. More baby stuff. Getting a bunch of giggles. One: 'Cause of all the AU stuff that's gonna be created at Ally's on June 5th, and Two: "Better Angels". Well, orchid did predict that one. *g*

Popped over to ScapeRoute and read the interview with huzzlewhat. Lovely questions derive excellent insights. Surprises me not at all that the author is this expressive. The bbq wants an interview with Maayan, orchidcactus and KernilCrash; just to start. Cripes, "3rd person omniscient"... who was the interviewer...? I musta missed that.

aeryncrichton's on a roll. Her DWTB epilogue, and the epic response to Atana_Mirtai's "Last Scene Standing" Challenge. Just awesome stuff. The DWTB epilogue, three different flavors. Loved all three parts-- personal favorite, Part 3. And "Last Seen Standing". Oh boy. Excellent. Loved it. Want 'em. Bad. Need. Time. For. Email!

Hey, do not get me wrong. I'd have 'No Dominion' here in a hot second, except well. It's long. Really long. Staggering in it's longness. Even stripped to bare formatting essentials the story weighs in at a hefty 478K! Check it out. I adore every single word. Second. It's frelling 'everywhere'! Does it really need to be here too? Third. Hey, this site is here 'cause I want to be able to 'find' my favorite stories. Fourth. Okay, is there anything funnier than someone visiting this page cause they ran a search on Google with the keywords: "Soap Screen Capture Dies", and something 'here' popped up on the search? Bizarre. Makes me want to go to Google and type random crap, just to see how many times we pop up there. We'd probably pop up as first choice if someone typed: "Inane drivel" in the search bar. Lemme go check! *the bbq bounces*

Despite evidence to the contrary, Ally's feeling particularly productive tonight and we've done a number of things that have been in a holding pattern for the last week or so. Added one of our favorite works to Ally's Archive:

New at Ally's Archive:
Should've Brought A Bag, by BetanSurvey

SBaB was BetanSurvey's first Farscape FanFiction, originally posted in 15 parts on the Dominion BB between November 12, 2001 and December 15, 2001, each part leaving the reader hanging onto a rockin' cliffhanger! 'Should've Brought A Bag', aka 'Attack of the Killer Jellfu', handily nabbed the Third Place Award in the Action/Adventure Category for the 2002 FanFic Awards. The A/A category had some powerhouse competition, with Maayan's absolutely unbeatable 'No Dominion' snagging top honors, and the intense 'The Good Times' by orchidcactus, scooping up 2nd place. Betan's in excellent company here. These stories cannot be missed.

Okay. email. In this technological age, you'd think someone could come up with something better, faster, easier. More to the point... Ally's wondering if In The Company Of Ghosts is over. Keeps nagging the bbq to send an email. Anyway. We're worried 'cause, well, we're fic gluttons (number one), and number two; the end of Part 2 was noted with "Fin Part 2", which is just frelling with our heads something awful. I mean: "End... Part 2", kinda indicates there will be a Part 3. Will there be a Part 3? Somebody email the Maxx and ask for us, eh? Purty please?

Tangent: My reality, my conception (no pun intended); doesn't allow me to believe Aeryn will be sprouting forth with child anytime soon. Mindset making it hard to enjoy the bulk (sorry) of some of the post S3 fanfiction. Nevertheless...

New at Leviathan:

Pretend It's Fate, by Ellen Millholland ( pd 5/1/02 )

Ignore the few technical hiccups. The narrative is possessed of a lovely lyric quality.

Claiming no words of our own in the Farscape Fan Fiction arena, and having nothing to do with the many extraordinary writers who develop amazing stories (and generously share them!); nevertheless, we remain inordinately proud of their accomplishments. We do tend to reserve special pride in those contributing authors for the Locket series; The Aeryn Years.

We keep going back there. Reading, and rereading. Tonight it was huzzlewhat's turn, re-reading, 'Rain', this compelling story coming in at 110 cycles on the favored world. So many life experiences, some not as joyous as others.

Following the events in the story 'Rain', and before the interlude at 125 cycles beautifully described by huzzlewhat in 'Harvest Dance', we have a lovely NEW vignette, a poigniant moment between a mother and a son.

Crap. Just realized May 17 isn't 'this' weekend. Well, fer... not even 10 minutes and I'm ALREADY raining on my own parade. *grumble mumble*

This IS how strange the bbq is, private journal entry amused me so much, just gotta share:

Breakfasted at Arby's. Lovely little counter girl, always gives me a big smile. I think I'm the only frelling person who eats breakfast there, and we always seem to have the same discussion: "You only want egg and bacon on your croissant?" "Yep." "You don't want any cheese?" "No thank you." (occassionally I throw in a: "I don't like cheese." A bald faced lie meant to make me feel less of a freak.) "Uh. Okay." "hehe".

Okay, FREEDOM! Over the weekend this here blog will not be updated. Not our fault. Geocities fault. Received the following via email:

Dear Yahoo! GeoCities Premium Member,

(*g* That made me feel 'so' special)

GeoCities will be performing scheduled maintenance starting Friday, May 17th, 2002 at 9:00 pm PST (GMT-7). Service will be restored the morning of Sunday, May 19th, 2002.

(If geocities is 'anything at all' like Scifi... this means I'll be posting again sometime in June... 2005!)

As a premium member (Pro, Webmaster, and Advantage), this maintenance will only affect your ability to update or edit your site -- visitors to your site will experience no downtime. This means that access to page-editing tools and FTP features will be unavailable, but visitors will still be able to view your web site normally.

(Thus the aforementioned 'freedom')

During the maintenance period, we will post updates directly on the GeoCities home page to keep you informed on our progress. We appreciate your patience while we move our servers to a new facility.

(None of this means bullfrell to ya'll, you won't be able to tell if Geocities is messin' with the bbq, or if the bbq is messin' with you all!)

Thank you for using Yahoo! GeoCities,

The GeoCities Team

No, no. Thank you!

Okay, this means we gotta do some 'serious' work. Tonight.
